Hi all

What do you think about this one?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201236483785951/sort/default/usedcars/transmission/manual/engine-size-cars/3l_to_3-9l/model/z4/make/bmw/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/postcode/kt122lp/page/1/radius/30?logcode=p

I went to see the car. It is nice. What worries me is that the car has 85 k miles. ~Do you recommend to get something under 60k?

Is there any sound on the engine that i should be careful with?

I had a feeling with this one that the acceleration is somehow too slow in neutral.

Going purely on the ad it looks pretty good to me. 85k isn't big mileage for these engines, lots of people on here with a fair bit more on the car than that. OEM aero spoiler and CSL reps as extras. If the history looks good and the general condition is good then why not. Only reason I'd avoid something with mileage north of 60K is if I was going to be putting big mileage on it myself. At 85k you are not far off 100k at which point a car becomes very difficult to sell purely because of some weird attitude that everyone in this country as to that figure.

Acceleration will be slow in neutral. You need to put it into gear for better results

Hi guys

thanks for advices.
I had a look at the history and it is a full history. I didnt check with the garages .. if i remember right it has 4 stamps BMW dealer and 2 independent.

The car has satnav.. why is it strange? maybe price too low?

The car has 3 owners .. but what was strange was that dealer had that piece of paper cutted for seller from V% and not the entire V5... more to search here.

about the mileage i dont know .. but this will be my only car so i guess i will do at least 15k / year.

the strange thing is why dealer wants to sell it with 5.5k .. this mileage is around6k or more? .. maybe winter?

also the engine had a little thickening.... is it bmw engine loud ... normal like this?

no smoke when i start engine , no delay , easy shacking on idle.

no smoke on oil cap or stick. engine not changing the rpm when i removed the engine oil cap so far so good :)

I meant - the car has an expensive option, i.e. the satnav, and it is not mentioned in the advert.

For the money it seems good to me

actually the amount seems weird. ..

3 years ago i bought a 3 series 2003 plate.. with 2k .. which was really cheap ... i checked the engine ... nothing special at a first look.

After 3 month owning it the entire electrical system burned out because of a fuse. It was a 5 fuse and it was the same value there.

Apparently someone changed something at the wiring so the car can go for a short while.

Now when i want to buy a z4 i prefer to wait a lot and ask all kind of questions before i pay because the car can be nice outside but....

Do you guys know any special checks that i should do regarding this engine?

thanks..

This is OK, but probably means that the car has been sold to the dealer and registered in his name. The small section of the V5 is the V5C (if it is green). The larger portion will have been sent to DVLA by the seller.

thanks.. but it wasnt the dealer name on that green piece of paper... but anyway i need to check that .. maybe it is another person from dealership.

:)

I didn't think dealers bought cars/registered the V5 with themselves as it means another owner which is a big no no.

I don't really think the price is suspicious, maybe just realistic for a quick sale if the dealer either got it for next to nothing taking it as a trade or got it cheap at auction. It's not so cheap in that I would think it's dodgy.

I can see why you are so nervous about purchasing with the 3 series experience. My advice would be that if you have have any reservations then just walk away. If you are saying the engine makes a bit of a ticking noise I'm not if that's right or wrong, all I can say is mine doesn't do that.

anyway i sold that 3 series when i discovered i had water in the oil too .. which i checked when i bought it and it was none :)

Car is also on ebay at the same price..

I think the price is about right for somebody wanting to sell at the present time... there are a lot of 2003's for sale around the £6000 + price but they are not moving. and your seeing the ads being put up again week after week...
