Another Tyre Question

Should I bite the bullet and replace the lot?

You won't know how good the car is until you do.
You know runflats + nonrunflats ain't a good compromise. No compromise with tyres ever is.
You're going to spend the money eventually anyway, so you might as well spend it now.

On the 19" wheels you have, tyres with rim protection could be a good idea. Do Eagles have that?

I think the Eagles do have this rim protection. They come with MFS (maximum flange shield) which I think does the job, can anyone confirm?

If they do, good.

Again ... why introduce additional variables? Particularly when their addition is unnecessary.

Put another way, you're just over-complicating things. Don't bother. Good tyres with standard profiles will serve you very well and not leave you worrying about a decision you didn't need to make.

As for mr wilks' marshmallow pressures, try them and see. They'll probably do no worse than shorten the lives of your new tyres.
1 For some bizarre reason the only model that breaks that 40psi bsrrier is the E89

2 Now as for your " good standard profiles serving you well " tell us again why you changed from 19s to 18s
1 Exactly!

2 I didn't. I was lucky, my 35is came on 18s. I did, however, dump the runflats, two of which were new, in a fortnight and put on P Zeros, the rears of which have just lasted 18,000+ miles.

Thanks for all the advice. I replaced the run flats today for the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 all round. Took it out for a spin this evening and the ride is a lot smoother. Even SWMBO said she felt the difference.

Any reputable tyre outlet will refuse to change to none RF on one axle only. I had this issue, bought my rears and then waited till fronts caught up.. I drive Michelin Pilot Sport, brilliant tyre with one of the best wet grip (when it counts) low noise and economy ratings going. I love them.

I'm sure the official line is not to mix runflats with non runflats whilst some do I'm sure the insurance would pick up on it should you have a bump.
I've just ordered Asymmetric 3s to replace my runflats but in sizes 235/35 X 19 and 255/35 x19 to hopefully give a better ride.
out of interest. Why not 225 40 on the front?

AndyO how much did you pay for your set of asymmetrics with fitting ? If you don't mind me asking
£644 for all 4 tyres including balancing and valves. I used Kwik Fit mobile service.

Some people that have fitted 225/40 have had issues with them rubbing, so best to steer clear.

Mine were £650 from a small local tyre dealer, so pretty competitive really.

Ah that makes sense. I guess they're not too much wider than the factory 225 when on the wheel are they? I know that the Goodyears don't have the thickest sidewall, so assuming they look just fine?

Ps. I'd appreciate a few pics (front and rear) if you don't mind?

Sorry AndyO tyres still at the dealers not been fitted yet, need to get my finger out and get them sorted.

No need to spend money to get it checked, where I'm going checking is free you only need to pay if it needs adjusting, pretty standard at most places I think.
True, but AndyO had his tyres fitted by a mobile unit, which, I believe, didn't/couldn't provide alignment.

Correct, but I think I will have it checked now.
