Another set of non-runflats

Finally binned my runflats (well the rears are in the bin as one had a screw in it near to the edge). I have had a set of the Falkens before on my old Boxster S and really liked them - that was before they were as well known as they are now. I wanted to put Federals on the car as I tried them out on the Noble and was also impressed but I could not get a set quickly enough so I went over to Kwik Fit and asked them what they had. Went for a set of Marangoni Mythos just for the very daft reason that they were no more expensive than the Falkens and I like the look of them.

Camskill are selling them for £113.90 for the rears and £79.30 for the fronts which seems pretty good (http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m61b0s22p9331). Managed to get the set of 4 for £350 fitted after a bit of negotiating. They also came with a guarantee covering damage and puncture repairs which is nice.

Will see how they go.

Updating this as I have some relevant wear information.

Fitted the Marangonis in April 2010 on 47,800 miles. Had all four tyres at the same time.

Since I have had them I've been happy with the way they feel on the car and with the grip. I'm no tyre tester so what I am about to say needs caution: my opinion has no technical evidence to support it and I certainly did not test the tyres back-to-back with other options. In the dry they perform perfectly, if anything noticeably better than the Bridgestones that came off however that could be down to the age of the rubber and deterioration. Or my imagination. In the wet I think they are 'okay'. By that I mean not bad, and not brilliant. I am not saying they are dangerous, just that to me it felt like there was a little bit more movement than with the Bridgestones. I drive with the traction off a lot and like drifting the car sideways around the occasional corner/roundabout - grip and the point it breaks away are very predictable.

KwikFit offer a lifetime guarantee on these tyres and I did benefit from a free puncture repair on a rear.

Today I replaced the rears with the same tyres. They were on the wear marker and just a smidge under the legal required depth. 64,850 miles. The fronts have 4mm remaining at the lowest point.

So, the rears have given me 17,000 miles. I think that is pretty good. Had to pay a bit more for the replacements at £270 for the pair, fitted. Nice that they are made in Europe too!

" marangoni mythos " - excellent stuff - drink many pints of this on our annual Greek holiday in Thassos !
