I do miss the airfield days - especially the snowy/icy ones where the Caterwesticals would not bother turning up.

Plenty of run-off (unless you hit a runway light), and plenty of space to place with drifts/slides.

On the other hand, that's the type of driving/events that made me go through a set of tyres a day in my old M5 - and then it made me go out and buy a set of track wheels and find a supplier of part worn race tyres (I got 17 P-Zero Corsa tyres for about £70) :oops:

Top wafting mmm-five, I've only once taken tyres down to the chords after drifting about, excellent! :driving:

My Nankang NS2R have arrived, will be fitted on Monday, well priced from Tyre Leader at £188.26 for a pair of rear 255/35 R18 and £150.44 for a pair of front 225/40 R18.
 
Did you got for soft or medium compound?

For the money you pay, it's hard to fault them. Just don't expect too much from them and you won't be disappointed :thumbsup: I went for the medium compound and I found they tend to go 'off' after about 10-15minutes at Knockhill, I can only assume the soft compound would go off even quicker. Knockhill is pretty tough going on tyres though so it's certainly a good test for them and one in which they done pretty well. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts once you've given them a go.

youve got that backwards, our compound the road ones will go off quicker, the soft, sticky tyre is the one aimed at trackways predominantly... ours is supposed to be a dual use semi slick with a decent amount of road use thrown in. i went in a tvr with the softs on and it was nuts, but the car was only 1000KG....
 
I went for the 180 'street' medium compound, hoping to get a bit of life out of them and will certainly report back. Noticed the inside edges of my front Contis were very worn when i took the wheels off last night, probably due to the extra camber. I will check the geo at the weekend. :)

Hmm...not convinced I do have that backwards. Soft compound will offer more grip at optimal temperatures but will wear and overheat quicker than a medium compound. A medium compound won't offer as much grip but should be a bit harder wearing and last longer on the limit.

On a sprint circuit I would expect the soft NS2Rs to be decent. On a trackday where you are doing 15-20mins, not so. Nangkang NS2Rs were the sponsored tyre for the scottish BMW Compact cup championship. Those cars weigh less than 1000kg and the races typically take 20-25mins. I have not heard one competitor say anything good about the tyres.

I ain't knocking them for the money you pay. There just is no getting away from them being a budget Trackday tyre.

well theirs a reason the medium is aimed for "road" and the soft is aimed at "track" use designations... i wont get into whether they are good or bad, each to their own on that opinion imo, i think they are great for the money and id happily use them again. They are budget and i knew full well when i went for them, I'm my experience they perform well out of the budget league, excellent dry grip semi slick. Cant wait to swap over the the SOFT compound.
 
I'm running the 120 track compound and didn't notice them going 'off' particularly at Hullavington, however the stints were fairly short and I also didn't know the track that well. I'm at combe early next month which I know fairly well so will be able to give a better comparison (to mpss & 595 rsr at least) in speed and wear. I don't expect them to last too long tbh but grip level I think dave would agree was quite high.

ETA : also I'm running wider tyres slightly than stock so 235/40 & 265/35.
 
Doh! I should have checked with you Tom before ordering, for some reason I assumed you were running the medium 180 compound? Ah well, will be interesting to see how they compare. :)
