Another emissions light

About 10 months I purchased my 2005 2.0 Z4 and love it, however, it soon developed a pesky 'Check Engine Light' :x
It appeared on a trip whilst driving along about 60mph with no real signs - No loss of power, just appeared. Stopped and checked all the obvious places but couldn't see anything obvious and it felt and drove fine. Took it to a local garage who stuck a code reader on it and apparently everything seemed fine. Suspecting it may have been emissions related the garage confirmed that the O2 sensors were reading and appeared normal.
Turned the light off and drove it home with no problems, performance wise it felt the same as before. Drove it round town for a few days but on another trip which involved cruising along at about 60mph (ironically the same road) the light appeared again.
Back to the garage, but on this occasion apparently there was no reading at all from the MAF sensor, according to the diagnostic machine. Garage turned the light off, ordered a new MAF sensor from BMW and fitted it myself. Turned it on and drove it round town no problem. Another trip in similar circumstances and it appeared again with no warning or loss of performance.
Currently it performs fine however today I ran it for a while and just removed the MAF in the hope the engine would react however made no change and appeared to be firing fine.
On all occasions the light has appeared at 60mph in 5th or 6th gear but doesn't go away despite town driving (covering at least 10 cycles).

Has anybody got any idea's of what to try next? Could fuel be an issue? P

Buy yourself an OBD2 code reader only £28.95 plus postage from Beat the Garage on eBay then when the light comes on you can check the code yourself and reset. You can also monitor live data.
