Another drive and another issue car wont start

So today I thought with the sun out I’d have a little drive in my zed after last week finding I have either a brake line weeping or fuel tank weeping I didn’t go far, I stopped to get some shopping and when I got back in the car I went to start it up and nothing. I had to push start the car with some help and managed to get it home but turned it off and tried again with bo luck.

The symptoms are:

Key turns position 1 and 2 fine. All lights and electrics work as they should, all dash lights illuminate as usual but when I go to crank the engine I get 1 click from the engine bay only and the key won’t turn any further clockwise.

I have looked online and am thinking it’s to do with the ignition switch being faulty but anyone had similar and know what it is for definite.

Thanks

Try giving the starter motor a whack with a 2x4/heavy spanner and then see if it fires up. My starter motor started failing, sometimes it would crank, sometimes it wouldn’t. On my brother’s wedding day it decided it wouldn’t. Luckily a whack from a lump of wood saved the day.

If it doesn’t start but subsequently starts after whacking the starter motor that’s likely your problem and a pretty straightforward part to change.

Thanks for the replies, I’m now more confused by this car as I tried to start it yesterday morning and it started up straight away as well as the other 3 times I tried it and then the same in the evening no hesitations just started up on the key first time. I now can’t replicate the no start. Hopefully it will come back as I’m now don’t trust the car to take it anywhere in fear of it happening again

That points even more to the starter motor. Every failing one I have ever had has always behaved that way.
