Another big bill :(

Found out what was causing the error on my stability control system. Faulty pressure sensor on the braking system going to cost £340 to fix  not having much luck with z ownership so far :(

thats the same as what happened to mine - that cost sounds like two though as both mine were faulty?

Ok, had a further update. After getting a scare that the whole unit needed replacing at £800 for the part, it turns out that the guy was looking at the wrong part number :? Turns out it's an £80 sensor and is going to cost about £200. Very relieved

As it is a Maldive colour, it will be quite old so BMW warranty won't apply.

£80 part, £120 fitting?

Is that about 3hrs labour? Seems steep to swap a sensor.

What is the job breakdown on that replacement? Drain/refill brake fluid perhaps? Make sure they stamp it in the book as that job alone costs a bit, so may as well combine it into the sensor replacement if you can :)

Dave

It's a 2004 registered 53 plate so I doubt a warranty for it would be cheap. At least £200 is better than the original quote. Will be keeping my fingers crossed nothing else goes wrong in the near future. Too many sensors and electronics to go wrong in cars these days :(

Yeh it's about a three hour job. Wheel has to come off along with the arch liner to get at the unit. Brakes need to be drained too. I think £200 is fairly reasonable to be honest. Annoying thing is, it's only just had the brake fluid changed as part of the inspection 2 service I had it in for last month.

Ah bugger.

Was just thinking you are essentially doing brake fluid change job, so really bad luck that it's just been done :(

I'm fairly surprised that it's three hours though!

Good luck with it anyway :D

Dave

Cheers Dave
Think it was quite difficult to get at with the wheel and arch liner having to come off and the main control unit needing to be dismantled. Add this to the cost of the part and the brake fluid and £230 isn't too bad. He also sorted my tracking out at the same time so not too bad really.
Seems sorted so far anyway :)

guys, i did ask this on another thread, but no one answered.... do BMW offer extended warranties on any BMW even if the original warrenty has been allowed to lapse? (i.e. can I take my 04 zed and get a warranty started on it?)

would they inspect it first etc etc.... any info very much appreciated

I used to think they wouldnt, but I think some have managed to extend after lapse.

Probably some clause or something preventing you claiming in the first x months...

guess a phone call wouldn't hurt to try and find out?
