Annoying rattle

In my Z4MC.
Coming from the right hand side of the dash. Can't work out if it's from behind the cup holder or in the door.
Anyone had something similar and able to pin point. It's driving me nuts.

TIA

Gareth

I took half the dash apart on my car looking for a similar rattle. It turned out to be the silver metal cover on the ignition switch. Sprayed some adhesive lubricant into the ignition barrel and rattle is gone.

ha! I bloody hate rattles, ripped about my clio to find one!! Fortunately the BM is rattlefree...For now.

You've got it right when you say 'for now'!

I've the same rattle, only now and then - especially on rough roads, I will take a look at what you suggested...

Since having my door seal replaced I also get the odd 'squeek squeek tooky tooky tut tut' in my right ear - lovely!

i have rattle above the storage compartment. it only started when i put my hardtop on. it stopped for a few days when i refit it, but started again. only rattles on bumpy roads, which london has loads of!!

Another bad place for a rattle is the storage compartment when you take out the handbook and leave it empty. Terrible racket :x

Dismantled drivers cup holder and air vent. Def not that.
Doubt it's the ignition barrel.
Anyone know how to remove the A Pillar?

Theres an annoying rattle in the drivers door of my kangoo van and it seems to rub on the front wing everytime i open it............................................ But then I did slide it into the back of a Nissan Navaro at 20mph yesterday... Damn those slick autumn roads and my lack of concentration

I don't know about the coupes, but my roadster, the loose seat belt will rattle against the hard surface at the door jamb. I haven't found a permanent fix yet.

I had a rattle that I traced to the cheap looking plastic covers around the windscreen pillars. I wedged a discreet bit of rubber in the bottom and the rattle has gone.

A bit of velco (aka hook and loop) to secure the buckle against the side of the car when not being used

I might try this cheers :)

Sorry to raise the issue again.
Having had a friend in the car he thinks I'm exaggerating. Still can't locate it.
One min I think it's coming from the drivers door and next from behind the speedo. Difficult to tell when driving....I need a Docs stethoscope!

Anyone found a rattle from the same area??
I'm convinced it's just a turn of a screw that will solve it as it's really not that bad.

Hi There,

I have rattles in the following places: above the drivers cup holder - I moved the vent opening slightly and that stopped it, I get a rattle from behind the Speedo, am def' not taking that out so will live with it, a rattle from the passengers A-Pillar - I again move that and it generally stops, an awful rattle from the rear storage compartment, - I think it is the hinge so will spray some WD40 and see's what happens. But the most annoying rattle comes from deep down in the dash when I go over potholes, speedbumbs etc - I think the strut brace needs tightening.

Funny thing is my wife and I have a Y Reg Alfa 147 1.6 and I hate to admit it but it would appear to be better built and more rattle free, (i.e there is none) than my baby Z.

my 147 was a bag of nails :o

Woo hoo fixed!

BMW dealer just called.
Good news and bad.

Good news they found the rattle. After taking the speedo out, refitting and still a noise...they whipped it out again to notice the previous owner has fitted a Horizon tracker. Well the tracker is somewhere in the car but they found the battery back up and it was this that was vibrating against the speedo. OK, something I would never of found.

Bad news, as it's the tracker and not something standard...won't be covered by warranty!
I feel a painful bill coming on. :poke:
