Hi all, Any thoughts on an android auto system recommendations etc. I have the sdrive with just the storage compartment on the dash, having used my phone for a recent road trip to Portugal I think I need a hard wired solution . Any thoughts

Do you have iDrive? If so the Mr12Volt is the best option i know about. If not then its a big job to retrofit iDrive. CHeck out AnubisZed as he has a lot of tutorials on YouTube.

I have a Mr12Volt and for me, its a game changer for audio. Really brings the system into the modern era.
 
Your simplest solution would be something like this....

It would have a suction cup for the windscreen with an adjustable arm. Connect it to the AUX socket in the centre console.

There are a couple of more expensive options, one is the original E89 specific Android screen which replaces the cubby on top of the dash, and the other fits in the same place but is a slightly bigger screen and so mounts a but more forward.
I have a video I made a while back that's the same fitting and connections as the current ones (just better specs and UI now).....

Hi thanks for the replies, yes I have idrive and think I would prefer a hard wired system. I think it would just be plug and play once centre console is removed.

In that case check out the Mr12Volt solution. Many people have it on here. It integrates seamlessly with the iDrive. One of the things i really like about it is that everything still looks stock, noone would even know it was there. Again AnubisZed has some videos on his YouTube channel. so you can see teh installation and also how it looks after.

He’s conflating idrive and sdrive ..

Cheepo solution is as per AnubisZed …never used one on Android but do work well on CarPlay ..I expect similar results
