Amazing MPG

Did a 300 mile drive today . All at motorway speed limits and average 48.5 MPG for a 2.0 . It was fed on momentum99
Not bad at all !!

I had an F33 440i (with the B58..and it was mildly tuned to 360bhp and 550nm). The F33 with the 6 cylinder engine is a heavy old beastie, around 1800kg.
I could easily get 50mpg on a motorway run in that, sitting at around 75mph. I only put the cheapest E10 in my petrol cars, cos I have never seen any evidence that expensive petrol is worth the extra cost!

It was terrible on fuel around town, though! :D

I once achieved 49.9 mpg in the previous M40i on a return journey from Bristol to East Yorkshire, that 8 speed automatic makes for efficient motorway journeys.

I'm just about hitting 40 mpg with the 6MT! which isn't that bad

Only do limited amount of motorway / dual carriageway driving so only averaging 35mpg. To be honest, not that bothered.

Question though, does the higher octain fuel increase mpg or not?

My long term average on the M40 is 34mpg , 40mpg can be done on a long run but not at motorway speeds, but honestly I didn’t buy a Z4 M40 for economy, I wanted a flash car and use the performance where it can be done safely. It is however far more economical the Boxter, F Type or several others that I considered as an alternative

My 718 Boxster was as economical as my G29 30i on a long motorway journey.

I found the B58 engine to average about the same as my B48 (3 series touring) and the N20s in the E89s.
It was generally better than the VW 2 litre TFSi in my (new) Audi A4. That does around 38 mpg average and is only 200bhp.
The B58 was MUCH better than the 2.3 ecoboost in our new Focus...that is terrible on fuel. even being gentle it won't do more than 30mpg average and it is easy to get 25mpg average. Not very good for a 2025 engine in a hatchback IMO.

I think the B58 is quite incredible on fuel considering how many bangs you get for your buck
