So I got the new stubby ariel, Come to take the old ariel off. I try twisting it and it's just not moving! To the point where my hand is getting 3rd degree burns!

Please tell me I'm not being daft.. and its just on tight...

give it a squirt with WD40 and leave it for a while

I have heard some have been unable to remove them

Lefty loosey righty tighty, but since it has probably been on there since it was fitted it could be a bit tight or the previous owner used superglue to stop it been nicked it has been known.

unless it's a left hand thread and then all bets are off as we found out when we broke a piece on a machine on a Saturday morning :headbang:

Perhaps previous owner put a blob of superglue in the thread to prevent kids stealing it...

Put some nailvarnish remover (propanone) into the gap for a bit, then some WD40, then wrap with a towel and give it all you got with your pliers.

If the body panel starts to bend - STOP.

Almost certain the thread has simply corroded between the aerial and the base over a few years. No amount of pentrating oil will get to it the way it's made, so as posted above be prepared for it to just snap off. Then you'll need a new base onto which to mount the stubby, so do it when you're happy to have this extra job.

Personally I would cut the old aerial off above the join and then get access to the fixing with grips and undo it that way, but you'll need tools and care of the cars paint, panel, etc....

I sheared mine off. a new base is about 10GBP from the stealers. then just a torx bolt on the underside in the boot.
