Aluminum-Look Radiator Cover

I was searching for some accessories and found one I haven't seen before. It's probably plastic since it says "aluminum-look", but maybe someone that's looking to customize their engine compartment will find it interesting.

Site Description: "Enhance the sport appeal of your Z4's engine compartment. The aluminum-look Radiator Cover installs easily and improves the overall look of the engine. Installation time approximately 15 minutes."

Kind of pricey... 144.95.

Here's the site I found it on:

Like the boot mat http://eagleday.stores.yahoo.net/z4inpr.html

Yep! I like that mat too. In fact, that's what I was originally searching for when I came across the radiator cover. My wife tried ordering me the trunk mat for Christmas last year through MileOne, but they canceled the order. Seems to be getting hard to find.

I thought the engine cover looked cool, but not $145 worth plus no doubt UK shipping making a $200 project.

So here we go - Created my own using a bit of spare high temp plastic spray. Masked to a natural line on the moulding, applied 2 coats and a clear lacquer. Total cost NIL :)

When my cf roundels arrive I may just drop one of the existing ones onto the mock roundel, but need to see if it looks too much

In reality it looks less dominant than the photo shows and matches the various other silvered items under the bonnet well

Interesting Phil, think I would have left the roundel black though.

I considered it, however the masking to get a perfect circle and with the roundel having no clear cut line it would have been very challenging to make it look right.

Remember this was tops 20 minute project plus an hour to dry/harden before refit.

OK pvr there we go. Has to be the now spare roundel off the boot lid, which has been replaced with CF

(Poor photo as it's taken in the dark garage with the bonnet cutting out most light from the engine bay)

Looks good. Maybe I'll attempt this this year. I even have a couple of spare roundels already. How did you affix it to the cover? Just some double-sided tape?

Couple of dabs of high temp silicone sealer. It'll never move

ok Duckie throw some pics up! :P

I have never seen a decent quality image of it installed,

I had to trim mine to fit because BMW reconfigured the radiator cowl on the facelifted model. I repainted it with plastic paint, wet sanded to a high polish. I'll take better pics when the weather cooperates.
