Alpine or Pioneer Head Units

i'd go for pioneer all day long, the best sound quality by far.i have the 8100bt and its spot on in all departments

Thats an unusual view, Ive owned several of both, Alpines always appeared to have better sound quality whereas the pioneers looked better and had more toys.

If he was going for out and out sound quality should of just got a Nakamichi, but of systems he wanted the Alpine is the better

The steering wheel controls work with the exception of the phone button, but can't say I'm too bothered by that, it's easy to control from the screen.

thats a shame

I have always been a fan of Alpine HU but then had a pioneer in my last car (avic D3) and loved it.. much better then any Alpine on the market (at the time)

I never use the phone button on my oem MFSW!! Much easier reaching over and using the controls on stereo. Even the voice controls are a little naff!

I always used to buy Alpine but their quality really went down over the last few years compared to previous generations. I also changed to Pioneer and had a Avic D3 in my Golf but I've got the competition grade Pioneer P88RDS II in the M and love it.

But the new Alpine interface looks much improved, glad you're pleased with it!

My 5200bt fitted

How are you getting on with the 5200bt? I thought the functionality looked better but was put off that you could only hook up an ipod through the USB port in the front, meaning you'd have wires hanging loose....[/quote]

To be honest that did piss me off cos it makes it look messy - BUT, because it takes a SD card hidden behind the front facia, I use that for my music instead and the folder functions like they would with an iPod hanging out the front. So the front still looks flush now.

I love the simple functioning too. Making calls, switching between music/radio etc and Eqs is a simple one touch usually.

Still don't understand why pioneer didn't have the iPod/Phone interface coming out the back though
