Alpina Roadster S buying advice & prices... (cont. EUROPE)

Hello Everyone,

I am in search for Z4M eventually Alpina Roadster S.
While Z4M price level seems to be quite clear in Europe, Alpina Roadster S seems to be completely different. It appears that also the sellers are not sure what they can ask for... so they put on the table they dream prices, which in my opinion are a bit of the stretch...

What is your opinion about fair price level (not in UK, but in continental Europe) for the following spec & characteristics (I already test driven the car):
- 05.2005;
- 70k km mileage;
- 18" Alpina classic wheels;
- black exterior and interior (standard Alpina trim);
- first owner;
- Xenons;
- air-con;
- business cd radio (no sat nav);
- car is offered by BMW dealer with 1 year guarantee (as BMW Premium Selection);
- car no. 250;

Interior:
- driver seat leather is quite strongly worn out on the left side (seating - strange for me for 70k km);
- passanger seat has small scratches close to Isofix;
- strange stains/scratches (difficult to describe) on dials (tacho & rev) - this I really don't like - it looks like snail traces;
- missing plastic caps on both sides of central console - can it be that central console has been removed and caps lost - why?;
- worn out gear knob;

Exterior:
- a number of scratches and dents around the body - but rather normal for 10 years old car;
- a scratch on a bumber below front right lamp;
- a dent obove rear left wheel;
- scratched BMW logo on the left indicator;
- worn out / damaged Alpina logo on all the wheels (probably due to high pressure chemical wash);

Documents:
- service book is not Alpina but BMW, however fully stamped by BMW dealer (shouldn't it be Alpina service book???);

I have test driven recently also a 3.0Si Individual with same mileage, and while the drive was a different world, not comparable with Alpina, the interior was much, much better - light leather with black piano finish..

Im sure our expert Perry will be along shortly to offer his knowledgable experience.

It looks a very minimum spec, with classic alloys and no satNav so obviously not a Lux model.

If you can find a good one, definitely get in the Ckub.. Ive been driving mine around South Wales all weekend and I love it !

I think in continental Europe, we did not have Lux / not-Lux differentiation.
You simply selected what you wanted.
For me the goodies are nice to have, but car is primarly for driving experience.
 
Hi,

Unusual to see a RS on classics. I'm afraid I can't help with the price as I only really track UK prices but you could try contacting kees at Alpina Archive as he should have more information on European selling prices

I'm assuming that you've checked the service history etc. and are happy with the mechanical condition of the vehicle as most of the things you have listed are cosmetic and can be fixed with a little time & TLC

- worn outer bolster on driver's seat is quite normal on a Z4/RS, you can get a scuffmaster kit from Liquid Leather to make this much less noticeable

- scratches on passenger seat close to ISOFIX mounts are probably due to a child seat being used, again scuffmaster kit should help hide them

- central console may have been removed to run wires for things such as iPod/iPhone integration or stereo upgrade. Dealer should replace caps as part of sale as they cost peanuts

- worn out gear knob, get BMW to obtain replacement as part of any deal

- Service book is standard BMW one, this is not normal but there should also be a supplementary Alpina booklet

- I would want all the cosmetic paint/bodywork issues to be fixed by the dealer as part of any sale you could also get them to supply a replacement badge for the indicator (or at least sell you one at a reduced price)

- The wheel badges can be replaced, a user called PUKAR on Alpina Register produces some very good quality replacements
 
Oh, and looking at the photos, the car has the orange indicators removed. The side indicators are direct replacements from the facelift Z4 but it would be worth checking the headlights - have they been cut open and resealed to remove the orange or have facelift headlights been fitted?

If the facelift rear lights have been fitted, check that all bulbs illuminate correctly and there are no warnings on the dash

Thanks a lot for all of your advice.

Didn't Alpina offer clear lights option in 2005 or mount them even originally? Maybe there was a difference depending on the country?
With all the negatives I pointed out initially, it is for me rather unlikely that this owner did any headlight/indicator change...

Edit:

I just checked Alpina Archive... it seems that late number cars from Germany have all clear headlights and indicators, so my thesis might be correct.

It must be LHD/RHD differences as all of the RHD cars had orange indicators - this won't be an Alpina thing, it'll be the BMW donor car that dictates the colour

Sorry for the thread hijack, but any idea how I make sense if the liquid leather colour chart? Can't seem to find anything realted to black Z4 interior anywhere. Guess I could just call them I suppose :|

Black oregon leather is available - or at least it was when I got mine

Just do as it says on the website - order a scuffmaster kit and put the details in the box, they'll send you the right colour
