More special than Z4M.
I've had both, you are wrong. Sorry, but you are. Nice though the Alp is, the lack of an LSD was a mistake.
Can you summarise the differences.
Here goes:
Alpina + Points:
Rare
Special Interior touches (Alpina stitching....)
Nice Wheels
Lovely Exhaust note, especially from cold
Good Aero kit, makes the worst bits of a Z4 better
Plenty of Torque
Comfy Ride
Alpina - Points
No Slippy Diff, all too easily spins one wheel, then starts flashing lights at you
A bit lazy, lots of torque but not very thrilling
Wallows a bit on the twisties
Awful steering, electro thingy, seemed to stick on centre, awful
Crap early bluetooth phone, next to useless
Convertible, not a Coupe
Not an M
Basically I bought the Alpina because they'd said an M wouldn't be made, shortly after they announced an M and a Coupe. Having had a Z3MC previously it was only a matter of time.
They are very different animals, not much difference in outright performance but the way it's delivered and the whole package are worlds apart.
The biggest failing of the Alpina vs the MC was the lack of slippy diff.
With the M things aren't as easy, it begs you to wring it's neck, and compensates you with noise and feedback the Alpina can only dream of.
Hope that helps.
