Alloy & Tyre Protection

I gave the p&j an early morning wash, polish wax and wheel detail this morning - testing a few 'Supaguard' (sp?) wheel products my dad had as part of his Lexus kit.

The wheel protector was evidently some sort of hydrophobic anti-perspirant for alloys, and worked well when i tested immediately after applying. However, 150 miles later down in Oxford touching my wheels makes my finger entirely black - almost like its worse than it normally would be?!

Maybe i have extra attractive brake pads :D

Either way - what do you guys use to protect/seal alloys?

Secondly - the same brand's tyre protector/shine seemed pretty good - though i think the Megs stuff is better.

G101 seemed to make my tyre walls brown too - oops.

Best wheel polishes are either

or

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Planet-Polish-complete-Applicators-solution/dp/B004UHZSMO/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1396202451&sr=1-2&keywords=wheel+seal+and+shine

Ones a sealant and ones a polish, Gtech is best but also most expensive, both last a long time and are very good.

Hope this helps

That tyre dressing is excellent as well, the megs endurance stuff is very good but this stuff is even better and lasts a lot longer.

interesting. Happy to pay if it keeps the car in tip top. It's noticeable that people are more interested in my toy a lot more when it's shiny.

So after a Newark -> Wiltshire -> London day of driving, i can write my name on my CSLs - though throw some water at them and they're super hydrophobic.

Maybe i'll try the Gtechniq then!

how does is the g tec stuff applied?

i need to do my new (mr wilks' specials ...very tidy) wheels and i usually use the poor boys sealant with bilbery cleaner. although i still have no idea how long it lasts for

Just apply with and applicator pad then wipe off with a microfiber simples :)

You shouldn’t need to use any sort of wheel cleaner just a wipe down with the soapy car wash water at the end of your wash, wheel cleaners will take the waxes and sealants off over time and will affect the longevity of the product.

Gtechniq claim it will last up to 1 year per application.
