Alloy Reburb - to be avoided

Well as you all know I got my 224 alloys refurbished back in January, and finally fitted in May once the worst of the bad weather had passed. Only had them on for 10 days and managed to nibble the edge of my front wheel on a pot hole as I was parking. :headbang: :headbang:

Decided to splash the cash and get it refurbished for the second time as it has been driving me nuts seeing it every time I passed. I used a local franchise in Edinburgh to get them powder coated, the company shall remain nameless for now until I get the wheel sorted. The company are not the cheapest by any means, but had heard and seen the good results from other forum members who have used other branches around the UK so was reasonably reassured of a top job being done, mistake number one.

The initial refurbishment back in January was not trouble free as they took 3 days to refurbish them despite booking them in for same day service as advertised on their website. They also managed to overcook the paint on 2 of the alloys and it ended up all bubbled, which I made them do it again. The owner was most apologetic, obviously quality control is much lacking as even he hadn’t checked them over and had quickly tried to pass them off. The final result was a great finish despite all the hassle and time I had incurred in the process.

I dropped the curbed alloy off yesterday morning at 8.30am and clarified that it would be ready by close of business. Got a phone call from them to say my wheel was ready at 4.25pm, now that’s a nice touch, first time they had phoned me and not me doing the chasing, so everything looking good at this point. :D Arrived at 5.05pm only to be told it wasn’t ready as they had forgot to fit the tyre and balance it. So paid my bill which was £96 inc VAT whilst I waited as I was not expecting any hassle after my last visit. Saw one of their guys rolling out my wheel to the zed. First think I noticed was that they had fitted a plain black standard valve instead of a chrome valve stem, so away back inside it went. The owner then brought it out a few minutes later and asked me to open my boot so he could put the wheel in for me. I said I haven’t checked it over yet and proceeded to inspect their work.

Shocked or what, the inside of the alloy is rougher than sandpaper, looks like the paint has been over cooked as it is bubbled everywhere. Pointed this out to the owner who said he didn’t know how this had happened. FFS! Told me to bring book it I again and he would do it again for me. Needless to say I have the hassle and time of returning the wheel again, hopefully they get it right on the second attempt. Certainly their quality control hasn’t improved and worst of all the same things are happening. Will not be avoiding this company again in the future that’s for sure!

Here are a few photos detailing the quality of their work yesterday.

Eeek - who's been eating oranges. Orange peel everywhere :o

Hope you get it sorted

I do hope so Adamski, the darned thing looks worst now than when it was curbed and my stress levels are rising :headbang: :headbang:

Looks like my thighs :o . Only kidding. That is just appalling. Especially with all the extra time wasted you have had, they should really do it right and give you your money back.

Am so annoyed after paying good money only to receive crap workmanship. This company doesn't know the meaning of customer service or quality control.

Question of the day should be "why do things always have to be complicated."

Sorry to hear you are being messed around like that. :x
But you raise a point I hadn't considered for my soon to be done wheel refurb - do the M badges on the wheels come off and go back again or do I need to get new ones?

I'm having similar problems at the moment, I hate having to rely on companies like this to get work done.

I'm having wheel issues at the moment, not down to the quality just the sheer piss-take in time. I dropped my 108 off for a repair last week, just the rim and it has to be powder-coated Crome.
I gave it to them last Thursday so thy have had it in their possession 9 days nearly and I was originally told to pick it up last Tuesday but its still not ready.

I know what the problem is, I'm not paying for it, the tyre garage are footing the bill and he's saying the oven costs £200 for the 20 min bake so I get the feeling he's dragging his heels until he can put more objects in with it.

Any luck with getting these sorted out?

The alloy is on my list to be done, however my zed has been at the dealers for 10 days and still counting for another issue. Once the part comes, (part on back order so date unknown) it will be in. The shop owner knows I am far from happy and will be back. I will post update once wheel has been re done.
