I saw them a while ago but thought the black was too dark to match the tyre (unless recently 'dressed'), and the grey was too light to match the alloy but too dark to match the rim.
I suppose you could always colour-code them to the paint colour of the alloys.

Neat Idea.
I looked and the way you install them is hammer an inch of the Gator plastic lip between the rim and the tyre. They come in a 21 inch size, so you have to cut them if a smaller is needed. 
Even the smallest possible gap could lead to air leaking out of the tyre, not to mention the sudden increase in pressure when hitting a pothole or going agressivly and fast through a curve... this just does not seem right for my type of driving. Might be good for my moms Fabia though

it will be ideally suited to those conditions you describe. I would be
interested to find out though.

While the concept of having some sort of sacrificial rim protector does have a certain appeal the crudeness of this would concern me. Although I'm sure the tyre will remain airtight as the bead to rim seats over a large profile area the thought of having a strip of plastic hammered in the gap would give me cause for concern.
Any company who promo video features a guy beating something into the rim and a car raised on a scissor jack with a screwdriver as a brace sets the tone for me :thumbsdown:
