Alarm activating randomly

Has anybody suffered this and, more importantly, can anyone suggest some simple checks I can do before I let the dealer have a look?

The car initiates its alarm randomly. The first event was a couple of weeks ago, in a service area car park. I just assumed that someone may have bumped/touched the car. I did check round the car and found nothing.

More recently it has started to initiate the alarm whilst parked in the garage. This is annoying for 2 reasons. Firstly I can hear it and it disturbs my sleep. Secondly, it suggests that the earlier event was not a one-off and it can happen wherever the car is. Random alarms are annoying and will drain a battery. Not setting the alarm is an option whilst the car is at home, but not when it is out.

What should I look for as a possible contributor to the random behaviour of the alarm? Although the car is generally kept in the garage with the roof down, the alarm has initiated with the roof up as well.

If I remember well from previous similar threads the most possible cause is the hood switch.
If you do a search you might find several discussions

konas is spot on - I asked the same question a couple of months back. Removed it as a test - perfect. Fitted a new one - perfect. No problem since.

Switch is located at the centre rear of the engine bay where the strut braces meet.
