AirBag Warning Light -Fault

Hi Guys,

My friends Z4 has recently flashed up the airbag warning light (out of the blue). The light stayed on so he took it to the garage. He got the error codes:

93FC- Positive Battery Lead (Monitoring of Shielding).
93FD- Ground Battery Lead (Monitoring of Shielding).

Any ideas to what this is??

I know the main positive battery cable is run under the car and is monitored for potential damage by the airbag system by changes in impedance of the cable shielding. It could be the cable was damaged by road debris?

I'm not aware of anything similar for the ground system, that part makes no sense to me. The fact both descrip0tions are nearly identical makes me wonder if the problem is the system's connection to the main cable rather than the cable itself.

Cheers for the reply mate.

He did find a wire near the battery that looked a little like a sensor. He noticed it had a little damage and 'recovered' the wire with some electrical tape. The light has vanished, not sure about the error codes though. Do you think it could be as simple as that or do you think the covering of the wire and the light diminishing is a coincidence?

Cheers again

Coincidence. That wire is the B+ monitoring sensor for the cable as discribed above.... Which has nothing to do with the airbag fault. There is one two wire connection in the battery compartment that is related to the airbag and cleaning that connection cleared my airbag fault....(BMW Tecnician diagnosed fault and cleaned)
