It looks like a "module" of the airbag system was replaced in the car before I got it. It was presumably done by a non-BMW place since they didn't "program" it. The way they described it to me was that it didn't know who it was or what car it was in. It was $189 to have them program. After that most of the codes went away except it still did not recognize the airbag module in the door.
Which makes sense because the door is from a 2007 Z4.
So last night I took my 2003 module and airbag off the damaged door, still sitting in my garage, and put them in the '07's door (the undamaged door on the car). Sadly even with the battery disconnected all night the SRS didn't recognize the door module this morning and now it's back in for another $189 reprogram.
