Air vent tabs impossible to reach

Afternoon all,

Attempting to install an AUX cable and having a complete nightmare trying to get my centre air vents out. I've watched and read every single guide I can find online! I cannot see the two metal tabs at the top. I can see the holes you pull them down through, but no matter what angle I go in at with a flat head screw driver (even the tiniest screw driver), they seem to be too high for me to reach/latch onto.

Anyone have any tips other than perseverance?

This explains that particular issue quite nicely....(first minute of video)

On facelift models the tabs look a little smaller/further back than pre-facelift and therefore more easily reached (like in the video) They are not even visible on my car. I will try and grab a pic.

See how far forward the tabs are in this video compared to the one you linked (skip to 30 secs in):

Its a tricky little job (much like removing the steering wheel airbag), but when you get it, its easier the next few times you do it. My pre-facelift technique involved the smallest flathead I could find and starting with the top right hand side, 'waggled' away to try and find resistance, whilst at the same time pushing down on that resistance and pulling the unit back towards me.

Once one side is semi-out, the other is easier as you know what your technique is. Don't think I actually bothered removing the lower ones tbh. The whole thing just slid out.

The technique I use is to wedge a credit card in between the top of the vent and the console trim so that the vent “pops out” when the tabs are released, then use an electricians screwdriver up through the vents to prise the tabs.

Thanks all!

I got it out in the end, using a Draper tack lifter and lots of patience to pull down those tabs.
