Air Filter change @ 53,000 miles

Hi,
I took my 2007 Z4 for oil change inspection @ 37,000 miles, Inspection I was at another dealer and perhaps thats why it didn't show up on their computer. But the folks there refused to change my engine air cleaner. The indicator for the next service is not for another 15,400 miles. Following the dealers "recomendation" I would not change my filter for 53,000 miles which seems bizarre.
While at the dealer I opened up the housing to look at it. It was impregnated with dirt and mosquitos etc... Also below the filter in the induction path were tree leaves and a plastic wrapper for a snack. I ended up buying a filter myself, the car runs so much better now.
What do you guys think. 53K miles on the same air cleaner?
thanks,

Gene

I change mine yearly, they are cheap and easy to replace so why not indulge... same for the carbon cabin filter (although they are not cheap!).

Not owned my Z4 for 2 years yet, but I changed it when I first bought and checked it after 12 months - was still clean. I only cover approx 5.5k miles a year though.

Just buy a filter and install it yourself. Takes only a moment :). I change the air filter every service, which is around 15k miles.
