age old tyre question

hello folks

have used the search function but need a straight answer as not many questions for the larger rims knocking about!

need to replace the rear tyres on the z, its a 03, 2.5ltr with 18" ellipsoids fitted. bridgestones are currently fitted but the fronts have plenty of life left unlike the rears.

i know a few of you have swapped for the non runflats but what other options are there for runflats that are slightly cheaper but wont destroy grip etc. failing that could swap the rears to non flats and put a can of tyre weld in the boot.

Most people who've stayed with runflats have gone for the Michelin Pilot ZP (IIRC), but you'll probably find they're as expensive if not more than the Bridgestones.

Everyone else seems to have gone for non-runflats and Falkens or Vredesteins - which seem to be half the price of the runflats so you can get a full set of those for the same price as for two runflats.

I can't recommend anything specific as I've never had runflats - although I have had a blowout on a rear tyre of a 25 profile tyre and not noticed until I stopped :P

thanks for the reply.

michelin pilots seem to be same price as the bridgestones.

had a look at the falkerns being around 130, vredestein are around 142.

anyone used toyo proxes t1-r's? their at 150.

Don't just look at price, look at wear rating. Michelins were just a bit cheaper (not much!) but the wear rating was, iirc, 220 vs 140 for the Bridgestones. Continental is supposed to be coming out with a RFT and so is Kumho. I've run Kumhos before and I like them. No idea how the RFT rides, though.

Again, without using the search button should you inform the insurers if your swapping to non-RF or just dont bother?
