AG Interior Shampoo for hood??

Was at a show over the weekend, the guy at the AG stand convinced me that the best product for cleaning my roof was the AG Interior Shampoo as I did not need the sealant/protectant as the BMW Z4 roof is designed to be permeable. Is this true, does anyone else to the interior shampoo on the roof??

I have heard the permeable bit ....the shampoo is that the foam for everything including carpets ( on which i have to say it is very effective)
 
Well the roof outer membrane certainly is permeable. (I've posted in the past on it's multi layer construction) so that bits certainly correct and one of the reason it should never be sealed with anything other than the correct BMW, Ragtopp, AG products.

Cleaning with interior shampoo. well I can see no harm if it's designed for fabrics, not scrubbed in (which would fluff the surface) and thouroughly rinsed off, then correctly treated (protector).

My preference however would always be to use the correct product and nothing else....I can't see the point of trying to be smarter than the manufacturers who do the research.

Cj You mention the AG products is the Cabriolet Fabric Hood kit suitable ........the words reproofing makes me question its suitability ??
 
Glad I spotted this thread. The hood on mine needs a good clean but also needs the black bringing back. Was recommended to use Fabsil from a detailer. Lots of ppl use this to clean/seal the roof on their mk1 & mk2 tts.

Is this not appropriate for the Z?

I do not for one moment profess to be a specialist on Z4 roofs aside what I have read from BMW, technical literature, on the way to roof is structured and how I have maintained mine.

There is no way on earth I would touch a roof that is deigned by nature to be permeable, with Fabsil which seals, when the design is to allow water to soak through to the butyl second layer. You may as well varnish it. I cannot comment on TT roofs, how they are made or why Fabsil is recommended.

Wegras - I'd stick with any of the recommended 2 part cleaner and protectors. Most need doing every so often depnding upon dirt, climate if left outside. I do mine anually but it's a garage queen and Winter hardtop.
 
Have used the AG kit in the past and worked fine but not last winter as i tried using Renovo which is suppossed to last longer but after all that snow sitting on my roof have had probs with mildew ever since have tried cleaning it many times but cannot get rid of mildew so now the roof has nothing on at the mo which is worrying me going into winter but she lives outside so imposibble to get the roof clean and completely dry ready for protection to be added :cry: :cry:
 
If I remember right the AG protector can be applied to a wet roof, havent got one to hand to check

It can but needs a dry day as takes a few hours to dry ideally needs 24 may just clean the roof best i can and pop on some protection unless i can find somewhere that clean and condition hoods indoors where they can get the top dry really dry to get rid of mildew then apply protection.

Have the BMW kit myself but the cleaner would not budge the mildew even after 5 yes 5 shampoos :x but may have to try a different shampoo and pop on BMW protect for now
 
I use the AG kit (bottle of cleaner and seperate bottle of protector) and reasonably happy with results. I'm not sure it sticks purely to the permeable guidelines though as water certainly beads on top of my soft top roof. Perhaps the AG kit shouldn't really be used on the Z4 roof?

Can't comment on durability as my car lives indoors whenever not been driven, so it's lasted very well (18months plus). I'm tempted to redo it with one of the more permeable treatments instead, after using something to get the AG stuff off.
