aftermarket wheel badges

does anyone have any experience of replacing wheel badges with aftermarket ones. Amazon sell a set pretty cheap but reviews range from amazingly good, to really bad.

Can anyone recommend any good ones?
 
I got mine from ebay. Very cheap and they seem ok, but I did give them a coat of clear sealant spray. Cannot remember the site name but think they are all the same.
 
Never thought of that - I’d always bought cheap ones and within a year they look ropey. Might try giving them a coat of lacquer
 
they're not as high quality as BMW's ones but both will still go wrong so might as well buy twice.
 
When I had my 2003 Porsche Boxster S, I purchased centre-caps via ebay and got a super deal. Looked like OEM including the packaging, but a tiny fraction of what OEM parts would have cost. Fit was perfect, too.
 
I bought some cheapies from Ebay after I got my 108s refurbed as I did not want to put the manky old ones back in to my pristine wheels.

There are basically two types on the bay, one has a grey plastic back plate with about 10 tabs to grip the wheel and a second metallic front piece overlay with tabs folded to hold it onto the plastic back that grips your wheel. The other one looks like a single piece plastic moulding with the BMW logo painted or bonded directly on to it. This type has only five tabs to grip the wheel. This is the type I went for as I thought the two piece type looked a bit too amateur. As I recall they were a little loose when I fitted them (you could turn them in the wheel) and I was half expecting at least one to come out at some point but they never did.

I'm pretty sure both types would be OK for the money - let's face it for under a tenner for 4 you can't be robbed can you? Just be careful on size as they appear to be available in 65mm/68mm and 70mm. I had 108s and ordered the 68mm ones as I recall and as above although not a really tight fit they never fell out.

I bought some last year £8 I think and put them on the Zed

They still look like new .. I’d imagine that they’d detiorate ovwr time

The genuine ones on my 15 plate X3 are now looking a little scabby whilst the genuine ones on the wife’s older 3 series are shot

Point is .. I’d treat them as consumables and if to have to replace them every two or three years I’d rather do it at £8 rather than £48
 
Mine are to be replaced when I get the wheels refurbed. I made the mistake of going for cheap ones a couple,of years ago and they're looking rather tired and they have never fitted well. It's going to be OEMs this time.
