After Market Warranties - Beware

Sorry ,but I agree with others I don't see how you expect BMW to assist you when you have a RAC warranty .

Have you not claimed on the RAC warranty ??

Yes I am claiming but as previously said they only cover the first £1,000 and the cost is soaring as Coopers & BMW are not sure what is wrong with it so they keep replacing parts :!: :!:

as above... Are you for real complaining that you took out a warranty not with Bmw & then complain they won't honour a warranty from a third party? Or am I missing something very obvious?

Not sure if you have read my post correctly - the RAC warranty only covers up to £1,000 and the bill so far is £2,700 so as the car is such a low mileage and young car it was suggested BMW may offer some good will :!:

'Beware' that Bmw won't offer good will when you haven't taken a warranty out through Bmw?

I think that the way BMW are dealing with it is disgusting personally; a 4 year old car with less than 10,000 miles should not be having issues like this. They should be looking in to resolving the issues free of charge and a goodwill offered it’s not like the car is 10 years old with over 100,000 miles on the clock!

I would not be telling BMW I had an RAC warranty on the as they don’t need to know this information. (I wouldn’t buy the warranty to start with though) you can buy a BMW warranty without buying the car from BMW for a good price (I did this when I bought my 123d)

Good luck and I would keep pushing on with BMW and the dealer you bought the car from I would cancel the RAC one as it’s not worth the paper it’s written on!

Why not when its true, unless you have no warranty or indeed a BMW warranty BMW will NOT offer any good will and that has come from a very high authority in BMW - simples

When I bought the car it was not from a BMW dealer so a BMW warranty was not an option at that time.
Why was the BMW Insured warranty not an option at that time?

The BMW Insured warranty is just and insurance product like any other after-market warranty. You chose (or were pressured into buying) an RAC one over the BMW one. The RAC one doesn't even seem particularly good value at £200 for 6 months of £1000 cover. The BMW one is only about double that for a year of unlimited cover.

This is why I decided that my only 2 options were to either buy the 'expensive' BMW Insured warranty (£80/month for fully comp, £0 excess, & BMW Assist), or to put cash away for a rainy day. I went with the £80/month option and kept that until I cancelled it at 100,000 miles (where the coverage significantly drops off).

Is the garage telling you to ask for BMW goodwill the one you bought it from, as it sounds like they're just trying to get out of you trying to get them to fix it, as they should provide some sort of warranty themselves as part of your consumer rights - and they've tried to sidestep this be getting you to buy a worthless warranty (which they probably get commission on).

I was not aware when buying the car that BMW would have offered an after market warranty and yes the garage sold me the RAC one so I was probably mis-lead by the selling garage.

I have involved them to a great extent and am expecting them to cough up anything over the £1,000 RAC limit as the car is now with an Indi garage called Prestige German Cars - they listened to the list of faults and mentioned it could be an alternator issue but could not say until they had the vehicle on a diagnostics machine.

I have no faith in Coopers BMW as they were just scratching their heads and asking to change more and more components.

Ah, Coopers, say no more.

They tried to charge me for 2 days of diagnostics that BMW wouldn't pay for when they couldn't find the reason for my engine misfire (yellow EML light). Every day they came up with a different reason for the problem, replaced the faulty part and still had the error.

Finally got BMW to authorise a new engine, and still tried to charge me/BMW for the (non-faulty) parts they'd replaced.

If you've only had the car for a few months, then the supplying garage should be doing more to help you out - although they might want you to take the car back to them to fix instead of the garage of your choice.

So Coopers have washed their hands of my car, called me yesterday and told me to come and collect it. I asked how much I would have to pay and they said nothing of which I was astonished but very grateful.

Collected the car this morning and took it to Prestige German Cars and found a sensor under my hat on the passenger seat.

The chap as PGC said it was an original part as the date was 07/11 so I called Coopers to be told they were charging the RAC for the original sensor they had fitted as the RAC had said yes to that part so in fact they were charging £600 against my £1000 claim limit :o

After a lengthy argument they have agreed not to charge as I think they are clearly aware of their lack of decency and especially as it has made no difference at all and all of the faults are still there :!:

Effing robbing back stabbing bar-stewards :headbang:

To be fair BMW generally only use good will when you don't have a warranty. I've had a set of 108's and my drivers seat cover in my E87 replaced under good will after the warranty expired. A lot comes down to your relationship with the dealer though. Mine know me and know I won't be fobbed off, but I'm never unreasonable and always polite.

If you have had this car for under three months though the responsibility is with the supplying dealer, and this is probably why BMW are taking this stance.

I had a poor experience with RAC warranty. When my S-Max warranty expired I asked ford about extending it and they told me ford didn't offer warranty extensions but I could take out an RAC warranty at a discount which I did. A minor thing needed a repair, one of the headlamp washers (the type that extend on use like the z4) and they refused the claim on the grounds that it was bodywork. Having had a bad experience with their car insurance also when I wanted to change cars I won't touch their product ever again

To me it shouldnt matter what sort of warranty your car has, BMW should be able to offer goodwill gestures on vehicles with very little milage as long as they are serviced properly especially if it is one of their components that has given up early.

Fully agree with every word but I feel I have taken this as high as I can go with them, even to the CEO, and no help assistance at all so the car is now with an Indi garage hopefully to be repaired soon.

It leaves a real bad taste and puts me off an BMW vehicle having had 3 brand new BMW cars and 5 brand new GS/GSA bikes with 4 of the bikes from Coopers as well as 2 of the cars so anyone wanting to know what Coopers are like just get in touch and I will let you know :!: :!:

Sorry to hear of all the problems- my car (AUC) has just come to a year old of me owning it, and I've renewed the BMW warranty. Having had two trouble-free claims on my previous car, I'd rather just pay BMW even if it's not the cheapest option. Peace of mind n' all that.

Thanks for the kind words, just wished I had looked into the warranty situation prior to buying the car :!: :!:

Apologies I got the wrong end of the stick and understand your post now, I hope you get sorted eventually :)

Sorry to hear of the issues the OP is having.

I had a very poor experience with Autoprotect warranty on a previous car I had (330d) so never again for me on aftermarket warranties.

I've had 5 'M' cars and a Mini JCW on which all had BMW waranties and from experience I will always now go with a BMW Mondial warranty. On my E60 M5 they paid out for over £6k in warranty work including a new clutch and flywheel. If I get another BMW I will definitely run a BMW warranty on it.
