I finally have a working roof again after more trials and tribulations than anyone could imagine. My roof stopped working automatically and in the end the roof frame was snapped on both sides which meant completely replacing the roof frame. The stealers wanted in excess of 5,000 euros. In the end I found a complete roof from a salvage specialist in the UK for 350 euros, had it shipped to spain for 100 euros and paid a local convertible roof specialist 230 euros to fit it. Just in case anybody has a similar problem I thought I'd post here to say that a full roof + motors etc from a 2006 will go into a 2003 and it all works fine.
