Thanks for that very nice outline of the 3 generation breakdown; my only other question would be how do I know which engine is in each model I look at? They state 4 or 6 cyl but not n20/n54...etc. so how do I know? Also, I thought I have seen some 2021 hard tops...? Are they not z4’s? I thought they came up in my z4 search.
Thank you again!

Are you now talking E86 Z4 Coupe ?

I was worried I was sounding a bit like Peter there for a minute. I had a 'speed drink' so all is now well.

That price seem pretty high. I bought my 2011 3.0i auto with 32k miles and M-Sport package and adaptable suspension for $20K
what year did you buy it? what state are you in? thanks

Bought if from a PA BMW dealer in 2018. 32,000 miles, no accidents. Has M-Sport package with adaptable suspension. Basically everything except heated seats. Only $21K. BMW do not have a great resale price after the original BMW warranty runs out. Because people are afraid repair and maintenance will be too high. I would guess a more fair price for the car your mentioning would be $13K to $15K

Thanks for your reply. It makes sense that you got that deal in 2018...because now due to the plandemic the used car market is inflated. I did search nationwide...not that I would travel across country...and found only one priced less and it had an accident, had 3 owners instead of two, was an automatic, 20k less mileage, and it was 16,500.

I was waiting until fall/winter to avoided the competitive warm weather shopping. I’m going to take it for a ride tmrw.

Don't worry about owners. The Z4 is a bucket list car. Many people buy it as a dream car and realize how impractical it is, then sell it within a few years.
Same with accidents. I had a small rock crack my headlight lens. Since I used my $50 deductible on my insurance, that becomes an accident. Pulling out of an odd packing space, I got a curb scratch on the lower right corner of my front bumper. Hence another accident. On the other side of the coin, someone can have a very substantial accident, and use an indie garage that doesn't report it to Carfax.
