Advice please.

Hello, I'm looking to purchase a z4 in the coming weeks, I was hoping for some advice on which model to go for. I'm looking to spend around 6500 and so far have found a 2.0, 2.2 and a 2.5 all at roughly the same insurance quote. This would be a big step up in car for me (ford fiesta  ) so I was initially looking at the 2.0 litre but with little difference in insurance price, the 2.5 is tempting.

Also if anyone could point out anything I should be looking for when I go to view the car that would be great.

Thanks

Hi ash welcome to the forum.

There's a buyers guide in here if you have a quick search, it's got plenty of tips but too many for me to type out here.

Engine wise - I've known people have just as much fun in a 2.0 as a 3.0 - I would recommend test driving each before you commit to buy. Find out which optional extras you want too, and don't buy the first zed you see on impulse. There are plenty of well looked after cars on the for sale section of the forum. I would start your search there....

Good luck

+1.

If there is not much difference in terms of insurance, perhaps look at potential difference in road tax cost? (Prob not much diff between a 2.0l and 2.5l, I'm not sure). Also, in terms of things to consider with future upkeep, think about wheels which will take 4 tyres the same size, rather than staggered may make a difference with tyre costs. I didn’t know this at the time that I bought, and it’s not a massive difference with my run flat tyres, but with the 18inch alloys on mine, it takes a staggered set up, with the rear tyres (which have a wider ‘tread’ area ) costing a bit more, maybe £60 for a pair.

Have you tried a quote of a 3.0 for insurance yet? I wonder if there is much difference, best place I have found is Admiral. The 3.0 se come with much higher spec and also running costs are still very low , easy get 30+ mpgs. Go with what you feel makes the most sense for you, all the common faults with Z4 are pretty much the same regardless of engine size.

I remember looking at quotes on boxsters and it was cheaper in insure a 3.2 s then a 2,5!! nuts

Best of luck with your search and welcome along

P.s the Mens club is in the coupe corner!!! ......1 , 2 , 3 , 4 :poke:

I was looking at the 3.0 quotes and again they weren't too much more, but it is cheaper to get a 2.5 than a 2.0 :?
Just going to have to keep looking, quite surprised at how many are available!

It really depends what you want the car for, how many miles you'll be doing etc etc.

A 2.0 gives you open top motoring (which is the best thing about owning a Z4  ), and in the right hands a 2.0 can be VERY quick across country....

The 2.5 and 3.0 have more poke when you press the fast pedal, but that comes with increased costs etc.

Push yourself for a 3.0 - you won't regret it!

I've heard tales of people revving the nuts of a lower cc engine when a 3.0 takes it all in its stride.
