Advice on products please

Hi all

I'm looking at purchasing some detailing products to keep the paintwork on my car in top condition.
After reading various threads I've picked out these so far;
Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner (already own)
Autoglym Super Resin Polish (already own)
Collinite 915 Wax
Poorboys Ex-P Sealant
Meguiar's Quik Detailer
Valet Pro Dragons Breath Wheel Cleaner
Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss Tyre Protection Gel
Autoglym Leather Cleaner
Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care

Does anyone have experience of these or can suggest a better alternative?
I've not used a clay bar before, is this something I should do before carrying out the other treatments?
The paintwork is good condition bar some stone chips, barely any swirl marks etc so I'm mainly looking to just keep it as it is.

All good choices, but some Alternatives are.....
Angelwax Billbery wheel cleaner(originally licensed to Valetpro), very good indeed,even when diluted well.

Autoglym tyre cleaner

Turtlewax Professional Leather cleaner
Meguiars gold class shampoo

Dodo juice wax/tubs, eg.Purple haze/Blue velvet/Whitewax? depending on car colour :D
 
Collinite 915 Wax - Collinite 915 Marque D'Elegance - is a great wax, been really impressed with it but read its more for dark colours. I cant imagine it will make much difference on silver. Make sure you dont put too much on by applying a very thin layer - less is more. Its a pain to buff off other wise.
Poorboys Ex-P Sealant - Again a great product. What i apply before the 915.
Meguiar's Quik Detailer - Good detailer but i dont think it leaves much protection behind if you wish to top it up. For a quick wipe down without having to worry about buffing its great.
Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss Tyre Protection Gel - i find tyre stuff much of a muchness. I prefer Poorboys Bold n Bright Tyre Dressing, it smells nice too
Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care - used this for all sorts, good stuff.


They are all stuff i have in my arsenal and the stuff i now use has been following a fair amount of research and reviews. I have brought stuff used it a fair time and read that theres better stuff out. Its hard not to keep buying new things. https://www.waxybox.co.uk/ is good if you wish to try out new things

Personally after you have swirl reduced (I use a varying degree of Menzerna products and a DA polisher) I wouldnt wash with the AG bodywork stuff as it doesnt give enough lift from the bodywork....
Swap it out for something like Chemical Guys Maxi-Suds or Mr Pink as these give much more lubricity and lift/suspend the dirt from the paint..... MUCH better...
Also what wash-mitt are you using? I use a Wookie Fist/Mitt and pet-comb it regularly.
I then use a bit of Demon Shine in a watering can to finish the last pour over the paintwork to act as an assisted drying aid. Then dry with a large Wooly Mammoth drying towel

If the Swirl reduction is complete then yeah, SRP is fine then sealed in with Collinite although I prefer to seal in with Collinite 476.... SO long lasting and does more than enough at a better price...... in fact I use that combo quite a bit matey. Dragons Breath is good on the wheels, no probs there although recently I switched to Iron-X

The rest is right off my very own list so certainly cant argue there... it works on my Zed!!

I like the megs gold class shampoo and the ultimate compound they do..

Bilberry for the wheel cleaner is a great product.

Glazing and sealing/ waxing is the way forward..

50cal filler show glaze is awesome... And so easy to use..

Fave wax at moment is ioncoat naviwax.. Fave sealer artdejohnson repel coat.


Tyre gel...

I using megs endurance at the moment, but its a bit shiny for me..
 
This is my fav current product prior to sealing in....

Poorboys Black Hole... great on dark colours.. machine it into the paintwork till it almost disappears then wipe the dusting off... really brings out metalics.

then I always detail spray the car with this after each wash for an unbelievable shine and freshening of the polished surfaces....

Dodo Juice Born to be Mild is an excellent shampoo, i've stuck with it for the past 2 years.

I use Gtechniq T1 Tyre and Trim, which is excellent as a tyre gel, last for 4-6 weeks and no sling :thumbsup:
 
I've got lots of stuff to choose from then :?
I use a Meguiars microfiber wash mitt and water magnet drying towel but may change to a woolly type?

Hi,
From my limited experience I definitely recommend using a clay bar before any polishing. Put a thin plastic bag (like thin bin bag or the bags you put fruit in at the stupidmarket) on your hand, then rub your wet paint gently using your fingers. Feels rough? Then definitely worth claying. Otherwise any contamination in the paint will be pulled out of the paint and rubbed around when you use polish.

I used the Bilt Hamber medium clay bar. 200g is plenty for 2 full car clays. I warmed it in warm water to make it easier to fold and flatten. I used 50g chunks and turned it regularly. If you drop it, throw it away and cut fresh. I used some old Autoglym shampoo diluted 1:10 with water as a cheap lube. Worked well. Just rinse often or you'll get a lot of residue to polish off.

Sealent wise I used Carlack 68. Very easy to apply using a damp applicator sponge. Very easy to buff off too.

For final wax, I use Collinite 476s. Use a foam applicator to apply. I found a damp applicator helped apply a thin layer. Made a huge difference when buffing off. It took much less effort and looked far better than when I used a dry applicator. I get at least 6 months protection from the 476s. Really hard wearing like CockneyPlayboy says, and still leaves the paint gleaming!
