Advice on engine noise

Hi guys,

I just picked up my 06 z4 2.5si with 15k on the clock yesterday! I had a 2.0 TTR previously.

Love the V6, the car is much more responsive than my previous TT. I had a question though on the V6 engine. I hear a slight hissing/whining noise at idle and driving from the right side of the engine/bonnet. Car does not misfire. I have done some reading on here and I assume that this is just the fuel filter where air is being taken in. Not really keen on taking it back to the BMW dealer so soon. Just wanted to check if any of you guys had the same issue & is it normal.

Thanks, will post some pics soon!

I had similar, turned out to be the oil filter wasn't seated correctly according to dealer.

Thanks, do u think it needs looking at? Prefer to monitor personally as I am quite fussy and the noise is not too bad if I am honest.

depends if its the oil filter or not, if it is get it sorted otherwise if your happy live with it, if it were me I would want the noise gone whatever it is.

A hissing noise could be a leaky air pipe, best bet is to get the bonnet off and have a good listen to it, try and narrow the location down a bit more.

I think noises are pretty difficult to describe though, perhaps do a recording and stick the WAV up and see if anyone can help?

Either that or head over to the events forum and get yourself along to a meet - guranteed there'll be 15 or so people there happy to stick their head under your bonnet and help :)

It's a straight six engine btw, rather than a V6! :)
