Advice on an old old car

I have hung on to my workhorse Volvo 850 for many years. She is known locally as 'the tank' and is 20 years old now and has done 104000 miles (admittedly very low!). The 2.5 litre engine is hideously inefficient but she still drives well and is the car that transports our bulky stuff such as the Xmas trees and bulky waste from last month.

Her rear bushes are now worn and would fail the next MOT. I sadly cannot justify keeping her now given the MOT, road tax and insurance costs.

It may be the scrap yard for her now. I am not keen to go to the hassle of selling privately.

Do of any of you kind folk have any other suggestions before taking the Green Mile to the breakers.....?

I had one of those for years ....... it just never broke down no matter how hard I tried lol

Get it repaired, you know it makes sense
 
There is supposed to be some scheme whereby you can donate your car to local colleges or training centres for students to work on.
Don't know much else but a google search would show up something. I hate throwing things away but don't mind things going to a good home.
 
Can you not repair yourself? That must come in at half the cost of having someone do it and you've got a car you know well - what would you do for a replacement otherwise?

Pistonheads has two for sale.
eBay has 9 of them from £0.99 to £950.

Put it on eBay.

+1. you know you will miss it when its gone!
If you do decide to part with it at that age and if its in decent it may be on interest to of those company that supply vehicle to the film/television industry.
You never know it could be Idris Elba's "Luther" next car! :rofl:

My last 0-62mph (downhill) was about 16 seconds!! She's been a good soldier and many are right- part of me just doesn't wish to let her go :(

I do like the idea of 'donating' the car so may have a look around. Ebay may get me few more bucks I guess which would always come in handy.

Surely after all the years of faithful motoring it would be nice to spend a little on her and keep with it..


Doesnt sounds like it has much wrong with it,and may do you another 5 years....
