Adobe Fireworks substitute

Just wanted to see if any folks use graphics editing packages, and what they're using now.

I've used Adobe Fireworks v3 on Windows for more than a decade, it's still running on my work laptop with Xp Pro 64.
Fireworks is great and started using ages ago when doing websites and such, but it's great for doing lots of other things with vector/svg graphics and also photo editing etc, has some flexible export formats too.

However, my windows laptop is dying so looking to completely switch my home setup to just Mac. But before doing that, was checking out Adobe Fireworks CS6 on an old trial version I hadn't started, however, when looking at buying the license, Adobe have now moved to a subscription style license - monthly/annual fees Creative Cloud (creative billing) which is a bit of a rip off, but even worse than that is they have discontinued the product

So, any ex Fireworks users out there and what are you using now?

PS. The best suggested replacement is Sketch and it runs on Mac.

I use both Mac (El Capitan) & Windows (W10) machines, and I find the Windows versions run faster than the Mac version (just doesn't look as pretty).

I just pay for CC a month at a time when I need the latest version for a specific client, as I'm not spending thousands on upgrading all my plugins.

It also means I have a full, but older, suite of CS6 - including Fireworks...which you can still buy (for about £100).

If you think you're stuck in the past I'm still using Macromedia fireworks from way back before they got taken over by Adobe!

Still have a look at gimp https://www.gimp.org/ have that installed on my PC at home and definitely more functionality in there than in fireworks - and its completely free!

Or stick with fireworks and ditch the mac :poke: even the ancient version I use still works perfectly with the latest build of windows 10

Hmm, I tried to google for cs6, but all links showed discontinued, will keep an eye on eBay.

Yep I still have "macromedia fireworks 3", we were using that when flash was all the rage.
It still does what I need it to hence skipped all upgrade versions to date.
I have VMware for the Mac so I'm going to see if I can get a Windows XP VM going to see if I can resurrect FW3 on that.

I use all sorts of packages and still keep going back to Fireworks (on mac and pc)... does what it does really well!

Have to agree, it's a really flexible tool, so really surprised that they actually dropped the product altogether. I guess illustrator is close but it's got too many bells whistles options.

I've read rumours that Adobe might resurrect FW but even then I'm not a fan of the creative cloud subscription plan.

As a left field open source alternative Gimpshop is free so worth a try, I was introduced to it as a FW alternative a few years ago when I originally did a web course. It's not particularly glossy or slick but the functionality is very good once you get to grips with it. .. and it's free :)
