Active subwoofer

Hi guys. I am looking at adding a sub to my basic stereo in the z. In my previous car i had a audison s4 amp and hertz 10 in sub this added very good bass and i inquired about adding this to the boot of the z. I was told that i might not get much bass through to the cabin as i have no pass through. The other option i was offered was this.... INFINITY-BASSLINK-BLACK-10G-KIT seems to have good reviews and with it being behind the drivers seat im sure it would add a lot of bass, just wondered if any of you guys had any experience of this piece of kit in the z or had any alternatives you could recommend. I am also thinking of adding a dice unit for the ipod. opinions on this too please.

Cheers

I've had a Vibe 10" Active box. The quality will blow you away. It's quite big, but totally worth it, it'll even work with no pass through

i have a jbl amp and sub in the boot of my e89 and it makes a massive difference. it can easily be heard in the cabin and gives the extra ooomph the basic bmw system is lacking. a very good upgrade and worth doing

what feed to the amps do you fellers use? I presume the standard head units don't have pre-outs. Just curious as I have some nice kit from my previous car that I may be tempted to install

The connection from the head unit to the existing AMP is via a MOST network, basically optical audio (5.1) + data (volume up / down, 7 band eq, fadar, surround). The amp then does all the work.

Your options are use something like an audision bit/10 http://www.audison.eu/index.php?page=product&id=42 to get an output from the speaker outputs on the amp. Note see my thread in problems there are bugs in the internal DSP on at least some of the amps in Z4 that leads to distorted mid range at higher volume, consquently a feed off the speaker channels will still have this problem.

The other option is to use MOST compatible preamp, there are not many of them but mobridge do two the DA1 and DA2 (link to DA2 http://www.mobridge.us/products/most-advanced-digital-analog-pre-amp here) they are also bringing out an amp with MOST connection. These will give use either 8 RCA output (DA2) configurable to any combination of front rear or an optical digital out (DA1) that can be used with an external processor or amplifier. If you go down this route you will lose surround options and 5.1 for DVD playback. You will have clean full band audio. Both the DA1 and DA2 feature 1024point eq per channel, and the fadar, balance and 7 band EQ on the iDrive still work. As do bluetooth, voice control, parking sensor etc etc.

thanks for the info Sketchley the Mobridge kit looks just the job. It's also obvious that my knowledge of the modern headunits is well out of date
I'm going to have to have a serious look at the best way to intergrate my Phoenix Gold amps and Diamond speakers into the Z4, threads like this just make me miss the quality sounds even more
