Accident !!

My excess is £600 :( but I am not paying it as I am going with an independent company not my insurance, I think even privately repaired it would cost a fair bit as there are broken bits inside as well.

I worked in car insurance for years and unfortunately you have to inform your insurance even for a notification just in case the other person decides to make a claim (and yes it would affect your future premiums and some companies would fine you if you don't notify them). but saying that there are few companies who wouldn't take it into consideration when its a non-fault so its always worth shopping around when renewing.

I got no NCB on the ZED and I pay around 500 for my premium which is not too bad I think, you wouldn't loose your NCB if its a non-fault (making a claim against 3rd party insurance not yours) but regarding the NCB protection it is a scam, you wouldn't loose you NCB but your premium will go up if you make a claim against your insurance, you basically just have it on paper but it won't do anything positive to your premium.

At the moment I am just hoping that the guy would say the truth about what happened there was few witnesses as well so fingers crossed.

Jesus a £600 excess with a £500 premium. :o As frustrating as it would have been I would have just said forget it. That is a few hundred quid to repair at a decent plastic/fibreglass specialist. You could probably fix it yourself with fibreglass repair and Mr Wilkes style spraying for £50 certainly a lot less than your £600 excess. :o

Using a claims company for a repair like this is madness and why premiums are so high and insurance a joke.

Its not my opinion its what will happen mate. Your mention of anal is quite apt as you will be taken roughly come renewal for the next few years.

Unless he pays an additional premium to protect his 'no claims' - it's not much but worth it if you have to claim. Also I'm wondering what his access is, mine is £400 :(

Doesn't work like that. Protected no claims is just the industries way of taking more money off you! Its an idiot tax. Question asked have you had any accidents or claims in the last 5 years. Answer yes your premium is loaded automatically.

Mmmmm interesting - thanks for the heads up

Reading about 'protected no claims' I'm now even more confused, see link below.
Seems you can argue either way as to whether it's worth paying depending upon the individual drivers history.

Is it worth paying to protect your no-claims discount?

Just had a quote from BMW and its about 1400 for bumper and grills part&lab :o

Waiting for the insurance to comeback to me !!!!

I wonder if the Rover driver will change his story now that he's had time to mull it all over. Wouldn't be at all surprised if he says you drove into home and he was stationery

I must get a dash cam.....

No, He has already accepted liability to my insurance.... A dash cam is definitely worth it though ..

That meant nothing for a friend, the insurers still argued it out! I've just got a dashcam - mini 0806 off ebay and very happy with it for £90.

Ouch... Least they didnt drive off... And you'll get a nice new bumper.... Possible get them to blend it into the bonnet and wings to cover some of those stone chips too.

Some interesting comments on here about insurance, I can only speak from a couple of experiences but no fault accidents have never adversely affected my premium and even a pretty significant at fault one only had an effect with insurer who had to pay up. They more than doubled my renewal but a bit of shopping round got it down to less than I paid the previous year still with protected no claims. This was in the daily drive and the accident had no affect at all on the zed insurance.

The thing that will really hike your premium is multiple claims in a relatively short time frame. Then you're seen as a high risk and nobody wants to insure you.
