Accelerator Non-Response YIKES!!

Tonight as I was leaving work, I pulled out of the parking lot and then tried to accelerate and there was suddenly no response. I pushed further on the pedal and it suddenly responded, then no response again. I coasted to a stop to pull over, then attempted to accelerate again and after depressing the pedal more than normal, it suddenly accelerated.

I then proceeded to drive it for a bit on side streets, then on the freeway. No problems.

When I got home, I plugged in my Carly scanner and it showed a minor issue - something about the DISA?? I'm not sure if that's even the issue.... It recommended clearing the issue and checking back in a few days.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I have a 2005 2.5i with about 172,000 miles on it. I've stayed on top of maintenance.

I did have the fuel pump (both units) replaced about a month ago as one component was leaking. Not sure if that could have anything to do with it or not.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

M54 engine? Takes 5 minutes to whip the disa valve off and check it. Before you do that, get someone to turn the ignition on while you watch the actuating rod on the disa valve. It should snap across. Ignition off and a few seconds later it should move back.

OK, I'll try that, but I have a feeling it's going to work fine because it's intermittent.

FYI: I did the DISA valve upgrade about 9 months ago... aluminum flap, screw-in pin, etc.

I was suggesting that purely due to the code you had.
Suction system? Check of all the pipes to make sure none have come adrift or got splits.
Then I think you're into electrical stuff. Throttle pedal, throttle body.
Next time it does it, see if the Sport button makes any difference.

No sport button my 2.5i, although I can put the automatic into S (sport?) shift mode.

Btw yes, it's an M54 engine.

Thanks for all the ideas! I will explore them.
