AC Schnitzer 20i upgrade

I've just had a email saying the Schnitzer upgrade is now available for the E89 20i on offer at £1995 until 30th April.
Says BHP increase will match the 28i's 245!!
Going to find out a bit more about it first, then maybe go for it!?
It's half the price of the additional cost the 28i is to the 20i so I don't think that's too bad at all!
 
What are the differences between the 28 and 20? The only thing I can find in the sales stuff is auto dimming rear view mirror. i would have thought a quicker car would have the bigger brakes, maybe some suspension changes too. I'd also expect the auto gear box to be programmed slightly different to take into account the extra power, and also for the stability, traction control etc to be different. Are there any differences to the engine, different injectors etc?

Hi Steve sounds like a decent power upgrade, do you know what's actually involved to achieve the increase. Worth finding out, I'm guessing its Rossiters what warranty is provided.

I quite fancy some sort of power upgrade without changing the Zed, of course we would still be driving a Zed powered by a hairdryer but what would they know :)

I'm going to give them a call Monday and see exactly what's involved.
Like I said before, I bought my car because the colour and spec was exactly what I wanted at a great price, but I would have gone for the 28i if I could have got it in the same spec at the right price.
I always had one eye on tweaking it as I wanted a bit more power from my 23i before. Most of the time the 20i is absolutely fine but i've had the odd occasion where I wish it had a little bit more oomph!!

Good chatting to some of you guys this afternoon, it looks like this upgrade is going to be popular. As with all AC Schnitzer it's expensive, but good, and with the best warranty out there.

Here's the email being discussed.
 
Can anyone post the info on this here? Is it effectively a re-tune or are they're any parts changed?

The 2 year warranty from "New" is that from when the car is new or the tune? e.g. my car is 1 year old, If I got this done would I get the warranty for 2 years i.e.until the car is 3 years old?
 
The warranty is from when the car was new so will only get 1 year....£395 extra for an additional year.
There are no parts changed, but i was told it's not just a case of turn the boost up to get the extra horses, a bit more sophisticated than that!!
I'm waiting for them to call me back, I'll post what they say ASAP but you might want to give them a call if you can't wait.
 
Can you ask them when they call you back what difference there will be between your car when tuned and a stock 28i? I'll be asking BMW dealer the same question on saturday well difference between 20i and 28i as I want to know exactly what the difference are.
 
The difference (I think i'm right in saying) is only the extra BHP (and auto dim mirror, which I have anyway!! :oops: ).
I wait to be corrected on that though. :?

Be sure to ask the right question though. From your post earlier I got the fact they say that they are not changing any parts on your car to take it to 245bhp, but that is not the same as the parts are the same for both model. In fact they offer a 290bhp upgrade to the 28i which would suggest some difference or why are they not taking yours to 290bhp?

RealOEM, although I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking at, had different part numbers of brake pads and calipers between the two models.

I'd kind of like to know. I might talk to service manager on sat and ask them to look up parts.
 
From what I remember, I think either the turbo or injectors or both had different part numbers which may explain the differences. While they are both N20 engines, it doesn't mean to say that the components aren't different.
 
I'm not convinced about this just yet, if the Schnitzer product is that good why not cover whatever warranty you have outstanding on the car?
I've spoken to two dealers today that were a bit unsure (typical dealers) and both said they wouldn't do the fitting for me. Schnitzer said any dealer could fit the product but I would have to pay, otherwise it's a 6 hour round trip for me to get them to fit it.
I'm not sure that the possible dealer warranty ballache,£2,400 and a day off work is worth it!! :(

Yes its a bit of a trek to Norfolk, couldn't an independent do the fitting?

Perhaps Mr Schnitzer can enlighten us :) I would have thought its more than just a sofware upgrade, I mean a bluefin is 400 quid or so, so I don't think you could justify 2k for just software.
