ABS Malfunction

Hi all,

Had a series of warning lights pop up on the dashboard yesterday - brake warning light, ABS and DSC. According to the Owner's Handbook this combo means that the regulating system for ABS and DSC has failed. I have the car booked in for a service and for them to take a look at this next Thursday but I was hoping to drive up to visit my parents this weekend (approx 300 miles round trip).

Is driving with this warning a dumb idea and is it better to wait until the car has had the go ahead from the garage or is it still safe to drive?...might be a bit of a noob question but its my first Z4 and I go into a bit of a panic when a warning light comes on!

Thanks

Sounds like the ABS pump has gone, one of the few common problem unfortunately.

I'd suggest you send it off to be repaired/refurbished here: http://www.ecutesting.com/bmw/3-series-z4-1-series-abs-dsc-pump-fault.html

Should be way cheaper than buying a new unit from BMW if that's what your garage suggest.

Regarding driving, you should be ok, but bare in mind you won't have ABS so be mindful breaking hard or if there is ice/snow.

Best of luck

I had the exact same three lights come up on mine on Wednesday night, but after driving it to my destination, stopping and restarting they did not come back on.

Would be very interested to know what you find out in case mine come back on!

Thanks for the replies folks...leg 1 of the journey has successfully been completed. Most of the journey was the M5 so little need to slam on the brakes but they felt pretty fine whenever I did need to use them.

Hmm that is interesting. I stopped twice on the way home be after restarting both times the lights were still on. I'm driving back on Sunday so I'll see what shows up then!

maybe I was just lucky and it was a random issue that sorted itself, but knowing my luck it will rear it's head again at some point!
