A word of advice regarding camshaft sensors

Just wanted to share my experience, hopefully it will save others time and money :D

The camshaft sensors were working every now and then. One day the car would drive like a maniac, the next it felt sluggish with poor throttle response and just no power. Since the DISA and VANOS have been rebuilt, the sensors were the next suspect.

First I ordered both sensors from VALEO. While the exhaust side seemed to work fine, the intake sensor threw a code and EML. Car ran terribly, with constant misfires

So, I swapped them for two Febi Bilstein sensors. These did not throw any codes, but I started to get small issues. The car would still not deliver power constantly and it came with a new issue: long cranking, but not starting except on the second try. :headbang:

Next up were two Hella sensors, since they usually make quality products and are German. Also no codes, but the issues persisted. :headbang:

Finally I was done with this trial and error game, so ordered genuine BMW sensors...
Way more expensive, but since then, all issues solved! Starting on first crank, constant and silky smooth power delivery.
So my advice: spend a little more and get the original sensors... :driving:

PS: in trying to solve the long crank issue, I also replaced the crank sensor. With this you can actually safely buy the VDO/Siemens sensor. This is the original sensor with the BMW logo removed

Good tips! Thanks for sharing. Camshaft sensors are not a known weak point on these cars - which engine do you have?
