I had a tow bar on the back of a Cavalier when I used to tow a trailer and some bloke crashed into the back of me and made a terrible mess of his own car but there was hardly a mark on the Cav.
Tow bar on the back of a Lotus is for towing his Osteopath
I think I posted a pic of my last car with my caravan when I first joined? :driving:
It was an '07 Impreza STI spec.D which towed an Eriba Puck caravan (550kgs)..!!
I used to have some very funny looks with that outfit, but I must say, it was still very rapid and was frequently held up by slower moving traffic.
The removable bar I had, when removed, was completely invisible and I shaped the diffuser so that it too could remain fitted despite being told it was impossible.
[flame suit on]I did a lot of research on towbars for Z4's and M3's and found that an E46 M3 had been done and I had the details of the components and parts required. I also found the 'bar for the standard Z4 on the German site (as mentioned above), but not for the Z4M. Maybe in a few years an invisible bar may just find it's way on there!! [/flame suit off]
I would fit a hook to the Z too. I prefer a car that does what I want, BMW are the people choosing to limit our choices.
It may be an absolute joy to drive on its own but it would be nice to have a wee trailer for odd jobs and a good size one for dumpit runs. As it is I run a Mercedes van as well, I could almost lose the van if I could work out how to fit a ladder rack to a Z and trailer.
Taz, is that your Z? ( if so where did you get the bar )
Honestly, I thought it was the horrible, homemade-looking covertible top on the Elise that the OP was commenting on, until I read the other comments. The tow bar is out of place, for sure, but that top is hideous. I hope that's not what the Lotus factory calls OEM. That awful, wavy, buttoned-on mess completely drew my eye away from the lower part of the car.
That is the OEM S1 softtop. Takes about half an hour to remove and stow away.
A couple years back there was a S1 Type 49 on our MR2 stand at JAE and they towed a caravan with it, it was one of those mini single bed type ones that look like an egg.
