A tip from a N00b....

Having owned a more modern 118D with an auto dimming wind mirror, I was missing it a lot. Everyone seemed to have their full beams on.

Only after a fiddle around did I realise that the grey plastic bit under the mirror is an old fashioned angle adjuster which dims the the reflections. Just twist it.

DOH! Surely I wasn't alone in not knowing this... right?.... guys?....

:tumbleweed:

I have an auto dimming rear view mirror but not side mirrors.

Is that because I had to replace them with ebay ones? Or were they never auto dimming? Mines an 03 3.0i.

Snap, mine are electric folding but don't seem to be dimming.

Exterior dimming were options, I have them but no folding.

OP's car must be a 2.0i se or it's been replaced with a non genuine one.

I have a facelift 2.0i Sport and for some time thought the 'auto' dimming rear mirror was not working - I assumed the semi circle item under the mirror was the sensor...

Like you I felt an idiot when I found it was the actuator and by rotating it the mirror dipped . . . hay ho....

Let me know if there is anything else I don't know about my Zed!

:driving:

I bought my Z4 in Tampa and drove it straight back to Knoxville, TN. I was so bothered by headlights reflecting off the mirror, being so use to flipping levers. It took me about a week to figure out all I needed to do was twist it. I thought it was a sensor as well. :oldman:
