A question for the 6 seed auto drivers..

I looked at a 2010 30i SE auto yesterday. The questions I'd ask, when driving in manual sport mode i.e. push the gearshift left, changing up a gear felt fine. When changing down, the gearshift action felt tight, stiff almost.

Is this normal?

I had the ZF6 gearbox in a 2008 Alpina B3. Never noticed any difference between pushing the lever forward or pulling it back TBH. Mine did sometimes 'miss' 3rd gear when changing up manually, though, for a reason I never found out.

Hi, we’ve a 23i with the 6-speed auto. TBH when driving it’s either in full auto (in sport mode) or on the paddles. Love that on these earlier E89s the paddles shift ‘mechanically’ down with a push and up with a flick on both sides. Why would BMW change it?! We will test out the down shift and report back… :driving:

When you say manual sport mode do you mean shifting gears yourself either via the paddles or via the gear-lever? For me it’s the same both going up or down the box.

In the 8 years Ive owned mine I think Ive only used the manual gear selector twice, I tend to use the paddle shifters as you don't need to take your hand off the wheel. I had the early shifters on mine and thought they were the daftest things ever, so changed the shifters to the later proper paddle ones, much better (more like what other cars with paddle shifters have)
