A perfect day out.

Saturday was simply a perfect day out, well for me any way.

Up sharp at 7:00 threw the rucksack in the back of the ///MR and headed off North. I decided to stick to the less used A and B roads so it was up through Okehampton, Winkley, cut across to Eggesford. Then up through South and North Molton to Simonndsbath on Exmoor's Southern edge, before enjoying the swoops curves lumps and dips of that finest of SW routes the B3223 across to Lynton and the car park at the Valley of the Rocks and all before 10:am with hardley an Emmit encountered on route, :driving:  What an absolute blast. :D

I met up with cracking bloke called Jay, a climbing instructor, for what I thought would be a group course. Tuned out the others had pulled out with high temperatures. (Thank you) So we proceeded with a one to one, bespoke days climbing course, just for little old BuzyG. :)

What a great place to rock climb the valley is. I had driven ridden and walked through previously and now I've climbed up and over. :D

Then after 7 hours climbing, learning chatting and enjoying the amazing views, it was back in the Zed for another equally brilliant, if slower paced, drive home. Zed washed a tucked away just as the sun was setting.

Days seldom get better than that one. :D

Looks and sounds fantastic. A great choice of routes. It’s one of my regular drives and in fact drove it on Thursday evening, also stopping off at a near deserted V of the R for a few photos. :)

Nice pictures Rob. It is a magical spot MrsG and I were just reminiscing on the times we have been up there. You didn't jump on the Cliff railway up to Lynton then..

Just got a few pictures through from the course.

Plenty of bikers echoing down the valley while we were climbing.

Must remember to take more Zed pics though. I always forget these days too busy having fun. :D

Went there with the first Mrs for our honeymoon. Stayed in the North Cliff Hotel in Lynton, half way up the cliff. Woke up the first morning, threw open the curtains and there, about 6 feet away was a bunch of very shocked tourists in the cliff railway carriage, passing by the window.
Kept the curtains closed after that, to save any complaints. :D

We did a boat trip along the coast and that rock formation in the second photo looks exactly like an artic on the top of the hill.

Did the B3223 a few times that week in my 2.8i Capri. A fun road indeed.

Your a lucky boy to have that on your regular route. Stunning place. The minor roads of North Devon hide some real gems. light traffic even in peak season and without the 40mph limit of Dartmoor. :driving:

A 2.8I Capri on that road in those days. Just needed a few card board boxes and a perm and you were made for life.

Amazing day. Reminds me of my stag do, except you didn’t wake up in a disabled toilet dressed as a fairy (I assume?).

Ha yes indeed. These days I'm closer to George Cowley, but without the accent. :D
