If it turns out to be a compatible one then thery have missed something.

Tbh, I always thought they either worked or they didn't.

Thankfully all the wires appear to be in one piece!

Popped off the coin holder (hadn't occurred to me at all - good tip). The numbers differ.

I reached out to some good folks breaking Z4's and found one with a matching part, which I've bought and is on it's way.
 
Well the one that has been fitted is the latest exchangeable version for your original. There is no reason at all why it shouldn't work if coded properly, and no other factors keeping the ligbht on?
