Don’t want to put a downer on your plans Iain but my daughter went to university in Wales. We visited regularly over a four year period and it rained every single time. I have lived here for years ,the only place to avoid is Capel Curig as it has a weather station there that records the bleakest of weather.Porthmadog usually records some of warmest weather in the uk.
My daughter was in Lampeter. I think we must just have been unlucky but every time we went it poured. I spent 2 weeks at a Scout camp in Llanwrst in the early 70s and it didn't rain once, but a few years later we had a family holidy in Prestatyn and it rained every day. Luckily we were staying at Pontins so could escape the worst of it.
Now I come to think of it I've never been to North Wales since so I'm looking forward to it whatever the weater.
