The difference in those pictures you all found "now" and the one he wanted to take yesterday was the time they were taken. If he took one yesterday and posted it, it would have been a "HEY! This is what the base looks like RIGHT NOW!" That's real time intel. The shots that have been found online are not time stamped.
If the golf ball coverings weren't in place and you had snapped pictures... your camera would now be official government property, you'd still be in their custody, and your Zee would have been impounded for the durration of your stay.
But hey, if you have enough money, you can get satellite photos of anything. Just be willing to pony up the cash to a non-governmental agency: a private corporation.
There are places out here in Nevada that have the whole "No Trespassing. Government property. Consent to search and seizure. Use of deadly force authroized, etc. etc." Some of these places are super old ordinance test ranges. Where do you think the US Tested checmical and nukes? It sure as hell wasn't near a city with green grass. I sure wouldn't want to wonder into a place like that. So when I see those warning signs, I go the other way and get as far away as I can. (VX is a persistant agent.) Those roads were taken off the map for a good reason.
For those that want to temp fate, by all means. I yeild the right of way.
So for those screaming Nazi tactics and what not, I use to work at a facility like the one pictured. Not everyone has benign motives for pictures.
