A few questions (buying advice)

Hiya there all. I am on the hunt for a Z4 Coupe auto. Sadly I do need it to be the auto due to a shoulder injury but how does the box perform please? The only car I have had with paddles was an Evo X SST and I swore I would never return to manual as it was that good. Also are there any common faults that I should know about or things I should check when I go and see one please? They seem to be like hens teeth so I will obviously be travelling quite a distance to see them is all.

I must admit I am looking at the earlier models but there seems quite a discrepancy with regards to pricing. £12K seems to get quite a nice one albeit with slightly higher mileage. Oddly though I have seen a private one with high mileage that is over £13.5K though it does look nice and is relatively quite close. For private sales is it really that cheeky to knock someone down by nigh on £2k to try and bring it in line with others of the same mileage etc?

Anyway great to find a Z4 forum for me to peruse and thanks in advance for any help given. :thumbsup:

As for price depends on so much including condition/history etc. As for knocking down on price - it's your hard earned so go as low as you dare and work up from there. Good luck. :)

Thanks for the links mate :thumbsup: I'm not sure I agree with the phrase "There are plenty out there" where the coupe is concerned :lol:

I'm sure I'll get there in the end.
 
Hi Andy,

We've got a z4 coupe auto with the paddle change, done a few thousand miles in it since we've had it and my opinion of the gearbox is excellent tbh. I can only compare it to a previous 5 series sport and it's no different, smooth changes and rapid changes in sport mode. The only negative is that both paddles do the same ie pull to change up and push to change down, would be preferable one up and one down which I think some forum members have converted theirs so if it doesn't suit......

If you are in the midlands you are quite welcome to have a run in mine to see what you think, don't know of any faults but I'm sure if their is someone off the board will inform you.

Great write up, thanks alot. Interesting how the paddles work though,as you say it would be nice to have right paddle for up and left paddle for down. That is what I would be used to anyway. The conversion may definitely be of interest if I struggle to get used to it.

Thanks also for the offer of a pax trip but I'm way up in the grim NE of England. :D

Yeah I've seen that one mate thanks, the mileage is just a little over what I would like really. I have been sitting tight over this weekend to see if any prices change but it is all systems go and I plan on a deal being done and me having the vehicle by this time next week. Of course it depends on the quality of what I find which is why I am relying on peoples honesty when I speak to them before I see the car in the flesh. There is a very nice car in London but the wheels need refurbsihing and a service is due in 500 miles. I don't mind the cost side of this but I don't want to be buying a car and having to sort these sort of things out. I must admit I am fairly picky with car condition and I have just had to go through all of that when selling mine. I just don't think it looks good when people cannot be bothered to do little things like this when they are trying to sell a car.

I wouldn't let the mileage put you off these cars, although if it's higher than the norm obviously use it as a bargaining tool. Mine's done 99k but you wouldn't think it. These engines really are bulletproof.

Very true, it really has nothing to do with the the car but if there are others around for the same price with 10-20k less then i would rather plump for them. I prefer slightly lower mileage not because I really worry but other people do and I will have to sell it sometime.
