A few issues

Hi,

Two issues that have just arose on my '07 Z4 3.0si:

1. The auto up/down on the driver's power window is not functioning
2. The parking brake only goes up a few clicks but does not fully hold the car in place

Any ideas what to do for both issues?

Thanks

1. Try a reset of the window. Lower it by holding the button down. Once down release and re-press the down button 4 times within 10 seconds. You should hear clicks in the door. Then raise by the same method and repeat the four clicks up in 10 seconds. then see if it works.
NB. On mine the auto up/down only works if the door is shut.

2. May need to adjust the brake shoes. Several descriptions on here but honestly I found it easiest to take the disc of rather than faff about trying to find the adjuster through one of the bolt holes.

Thanks so much.

1. The method worked! window works perfectly.

2. For the handbrake, it doesn't even want to go beyond a few clicks, and when I pull it up further, there are no clicks at all, and just setlles back to the previous position.

Could it be that something is wrong with the mechanical part of the handbrake lever itself (ratchet is worn) or is maybe it's a corroded cable.

Well glad the first one worked.
As for the handbrake, now you've explained more that does indeed sound like the teeth are worn. Need a new handle assembly I reckon.

If I do not change the handle assembly (as they are quite expensive), would there be a way to adjust the cable to compensate for the limited travel of the lever?

Thanks again for all of your help.

Hmm not sure on that one tbh?
In theory yes, but if an MOT tester hauls it past the three notches he'll fail it.
