Gets a message from my mate saying he gets his in 2 weeks, been on order for a year and will register it Jan 1st 2017, Viper Green proper 70's Porsche colour 8)

He kept that quiet! :driving:

Lucky mate!

Chris Harris gives it a superb write up . . . . . wonder how many will get used as they should or kept as investments with low mileage? :(

I suppose many will get moved on straight away, I doubt there are many people who would get the maximum performance out of one as opposed to a GT3? Also the huge profit,£250K+ , would be very hard to resist

Pays to be a regular / repeat Porsche customer.

Crazy that you can make 250k on a limited edition 911.

I bet hardly any will be driven and they will be stored away to make even more money.

Dammit!

Wouldn't feel too bad though, Paul... this year was a bit of an inevitability.

You'l never top my dad giving away the twist in the first series of 24 over dinner, when I was several episodes behind. Probably the worst day in my family's history.

No worries Paul :) mine only dropped through the door yesterday so hadn't read it...anyway it would have been ages until I got around to reading it, because I'm about 3 months behind reading my evo mags lol.

Sorry chaps - hope you all received my pms :(
I've deleted a few of the posts Paul.

Back to the 911R, there is no way I would keep one if I had one, not at that premium. Crazy :dizzy:

Thanks moderator but I meant, so that others don't read and spoil their article in evo, delete my post (being quoted) in their later posts.

I thought the comments directed at me were fair and quite appropriate  but I do appreciate your concern and actions, thank you.

Let me first of all say that Porsche make some truly fabulous sports cars, of which the 911R is one. But, I find their cynical marketing of some cars highly distasteful and it's actually set me against the brand.

Deliberately massively under-producing cars, that aren't exactly 'exotic', then allocating them to regular Porsche customers, or people who are prepared to bung their dealer principal a big enough wad of cash in an envelope. And if you think that doesn't happen you're naive. Just so that they can cash in and make a massive uplift on a car. Enriching a select few who have ingratiated themselves with their local dealer. For me Porsche is a pointless manufacturer. I couldn't get my hands on any of their products that I'd actually want, even if I had the cash to do so. But they'll happily sell me a butt ugly Macan or Cayenne and pass it off as a true Porsche when it's actually just a fettled Q3/Q5/Q7.

Why anyone would pay that money for a GT3RS-lite is madness. Why people are prepared to pay £260k for a GT3RS is madness too. Buy a McLaren 570s instead. It's a lot quicker in a straight line, it will be quicker round a track, it's just as rare, arguably has more racing pedigree and it will set you back £100k less. Oh and it's British too so you're helping the economy and British jobs.

My brother tryed to order an Cayman GT4, but he after 12 months - found out they were only selling to previous owners - so he received delivery of an 911 4s - same it will not go over 70 mph.

if buyers sell immediately, do they get blacklisted from future special model launch purchases like Ferrari does?

I agree with a lot of this. But I don't like McLarens so I wouldn't be buying one of them!

It is true Porsche are acting more like Ferrari in the ways they market their products and cashing in on the demand for limited units.

Ferrari are taking it to the next level though - now you will struggle to buy even a regular production model of your choice if you're new to the brand. The salesmen are intent on palming you off with a Cali T as your first Ferrari, regardless of how much money you have. Really puts me off the brand and products!
